New York, May 7, 1906. Gradually the cotton market appears to shape itself to the flattering crop outlook which begins to offset the economic condition of the staple. It is perhaps too early to take any ag gressive stand against the market, hut if the crop continues to develop as it fs now developing the price of all po sitions must be affected unfavorably. In my judgment at least 31,000,000 acres have been planted; the use of fertilizer has been extensive and given a dry May during which the plant can be cultivated, the yield, without a pro longed summer drouth, might exceed expectations. We need a crop of 12,- 000,000 bales at 10 centB, hut 13,000,000 to 14,000,000 bales will change the ba sic price considerably. Based upon the observation of the past^two crops it is a simple proposition at this to me. The crop of 1904 was perfectly cul tivated up to June 1; that of last year never was perfectly cultivated. The rain established the grass and weeds at the expense of the soil fertility, but so far this crop is in the favorable en vironment of that of 1904 and we must watch Its progress or deterioration dally. Any analysis of the local mar ket is useless, It simply awaits devel opments, and will respond promptly to the forces and conditions which, in the natural order of events, assert themselves. COTTON PICKINGS. Furnished ^ for Daily Herald Resdeis byCisrk & Co. Liverpool began the week right by buying 12,000 bales at an advance of 2 points. Futures were 2 better. .The market was very steady. European bears were afraid of the statistical position. Our opening was steady at an ad vance of 4 to 5 points. Twelve cents Is freely predicted for July. Port receipts were 9,000, against 18,000 last year. Raining and cooler all over the belt. We can very easily have too mucb rain on this crop. Seventy-two new mills were built In England In 1906. Ed. Elsenhauer issues an able circu lar advising their spinner friends to secure their supplies as rapidly as pos sible. The continued spot demand Is very annoying to the bears. Bremen stock Is 190,000 bales short of last year. The market has many friends. Cotton Is cotton—and cotton Is king. HONEY and TAR in the YELLOW PACKAGE LETTER TO ELKS BARBER SHOP. ALBANY, GA. Dear Sir: You'd strike it rich if you could find a way to shave your customers in less time, for less cost, and make the shave last twice or three times as long. You wouldn't shave the same per son so many times, or get so much of his money; but the whole town would be talking about you, and everybody would come to you for a shave. Devoe lead-and-zinc is exactly that in paints. It takes fewer gallons, and It wears longer. Costs less for 'the job, and you don’t have to do it again for years and years—six years at least. “Fewer gallons; wears longer.’’ Takes fewer gallons to paint a house with Devoe lead-and-zinc than with mixed paints; and It wears longer than mixed paints or lead-and-oll.
