To the great surprise, and undying
mortification of the Cordele people,
Albany won yesterday by a score of 3
to 0.
Crosley, who had not yet been tried
out, pitched for Albany. He held the
Cordele bunch down to four lone hits.
The support behind him was excellent,
only one break In the error column.
It was a wild throw, too, and hardly
counts. The men were all full of
snap and ginger and played fast ball.
Eambarger’s work at short was espec
ially noticeable. He has six assists to
his credit. Eldred made some pretty
stops of hot ones at second and Poole,
the new man on third, showed up well.
He was a trifle nervous, this being his
first game, but his work was all right.
In the outfield "Snod” pulled In two.
and Dudley caught one that looked as
if It was gone. The batting was bet
ter yesterday than It has yet been, and
the men bunched their hits. Dudley
came up when a hit was needed bad,
and he delivered the goods, too. As a
pinch hitter he has no superior in the
league.
Scott played good ball for Cordele.
Reagan, on second, took Poole’s place,
the latter having been signed by Alex
ander. Sohni, who pitched, wasn't at
all what has been said of him.
It may be said in passing that the
spor.ts of Cordele were hit h'javlly in
a financial way by the victory. They
have been offering all sortf, of odds,
flushed by their recent successes, and
their dow.nfall was sudden and hard.
Betting ought to be discouraged, tor
it 1b the root of all evtl in baseball.

Who’s hammering now?
Crosley’s all right.
There was plenty of ginger yester
day.
Harry Eldred got his base twice yes
terday. He is good at this. And it
counts as much as a hit to the team.
Lavender pitches for Cordele today.
Collier will do the twirling for Albany.
Osment Isn’t hitting like the fans in
Cordele want him to.
Poole has been released by Cordele.
Manager Holt decided that Reagan
suited him better, Alexander has
signed Poole.
Sohni Is a good fielding pitcher, if
nothing else. He made seven, asslstb
yesterday.
Dudley was right there when he
was needed. He is making quite a
reputation as a batter.
Valdosta is falling rapidly.
McGrath was a little off on balls
and strikes yesterday.
Atlanta recently made ten errors In
a game with Nashville. Needless to
say, they lost. Ely, a former Atlanta
player, was the opposing pitcher.
Loos, with Savannah, seems to be
another Loucks. He wins all his
games nearly. But it’s all luck.
It’s encouraging to see Columbia
away from the bottom in the South
Atlantic. They have supported a los
ing team for two years and if anybody
deserves to win they do.
Curran, with Jacksonville, is said
to be doing better work this year than
ever, which is saying a lot.
Cassidy doesn’t stem to be fulfilling
expectations. When Valdosta got him
they thought they had signed the best
pitcher in the league, but others are
showing up better.
Posey deserved to win Monday. He

worked hard and only the lack of
proper support behind at-critical times
lost. McCormauk dropped a fly in left
field which let In two runs.
Brandt, a pitcher who won favor
with the Albany fans last year, has
been signed by Holt, for Cordele. He
comes from Pensacola.
Another shake-up of the Valdosta
team is being predicted.
