Many Plows Sent to Those Whose Fields*Were De vastated Last Week by Hail Storm. “A friend In need Is a friend in deed.” • The farmers whose fields were laid waste last Friday by the • devastating hall storm which passed over portions of Dougherty, Worth and Lee counties have had placed at their disposal the plows, mules and hands of their more fortunate fellow tillers of the soil, and signs of the disaster of last week are being rapidly obliterated. On the plantations of W. H. Newsom & Son and A. J. Fleetwood, and on the Forrester place, these three plan tations adjoining, four miles north of Albany, a sight wbrth going a long way to see was witnessed this morn ing, when more than a hundred plows began turning up the soil In the fields where crops were laid waste last Fri day. The plows, mules and laborers were the property of a large number of farmers. Many planters who had escaped the hall storm sent plows to assist their less fortunate friends, and the consequence is that replanting will be accomplished in a very few days. Many of the farmers who sent plow's to the assistance of those not In posi tion to meet the emergency confront ing them needed all hands in their own fields, and their promptness in re sponding to the call of distress Is to be commended. THE GEORGIA INDUSTRIAL HOME. Manager Gunn ,8ays That Aid Is Ur gently Needed. Rev. J. R. Gunn, general manager of the Georgia Industrial Home, has is sued a statement to the public in which he says the home Is very much in need of aid. His statement is as follows: To the Public: Again I must appeal to the human ity loving people of our state In be half of the Georgia Industrial Home, and this appeal Is made because of a most urgent necessity. This is the season of the year when our contributions usually begin to drop off. Perhaps the reason for this Is money Is not as plentiful as at other times, and besides, people generally begin making preparations for their summer vacation. This year there has been a greater reason than the above. The San Francisco disaster brought upon us an additional obligation. We all felt called upon to contribute to wards the relief of the suffering peo ple of that stricken city. For these reasons, which ape good, our contribu tions recently have been very slim, and as a result we have fallen behind with our current expenses. I Therefore, I am forced to issue this appeal, the urgency of which calls for I an Immediate and liberal response. Remember, there are 150 children un- I der our ca 1 e who must he provided for, and remember they are dependent upon your voluntary, freewill offer- The best safeguard against head ache, constipation and liver troubles Is DeWitts Little Marly Risers. Sold by Albany Drug Co., Hilsman-Sale Drug Co. This morning at 7 o’clock two white men engaged In a fight on Monroe street. It appears that C. A. Carson was the aggressor. Mack Rogers had been Insinuating that Carson was Ills Inferior, looked at from any point of view. There had been bad blood be tween the men for a long time, it seems. Carson met Rogers this morn ing and asked hint about certain re ports. Rogers disclaimed all knowl edge of the things reported, and started to run. Before he could get anywhere, though, Carson struck him across the head with a stick, which laid him out temporarily. Before he recovered, Carson had left, and he has not been seen since. The wind Is drying things out In a hurry. The truck gardeners are busy- now, getting things in shape since the rain.- lags. In this hour of need and finan cial struggle I appeal to our friends throughout the state for aid and will appreciate any amount that may be sent us. Let no one cast this aside, thinking there will be plenty others to respond and your contributions will not be needed. Your contribution Is needed iind will be missed, If you do not send It. I most earnestly urge everyone who reads this to send us something. Much or little, It will be gratefully received. It will certainly come at a time when it Is greatly needed and will cheer our hearts in this work for humanity. Don’t put it off, but send your contribution right along now before you forget it. Praying God's richest blessings up on everyone who will aid us in this worthy cause, and thanking each and all In advance, I am, Yours for Humanity, J. R. GUNN, General Manager.
