Liverpool was very quiet today, not even the unfavorable crop reports In fusing any enthusiasm In the foreign market. On the close options were 2 points higher than yesterday, while the spot situation was similarly unin teresting, sales amounting to 8,000 bales at a loss of 1 point. The bull leader continues to spread his doctrine broadcast throughout the land, and the hitherto mystical silence concerning his reasons for an extra ordinary rise In values of the price of cotton were today broken by his an nouncement of three causes for the fulfillment of his prophecy, none of which disclosed new facts or theories, which have not heretofore received se rious consideration from all Interested In the staple and Its value. Nevertheless, the knowledge of his presence Is causing considerable tem erity on the part of bears and no serl ous attempt, no matter how strong their convictions may be, has been' made of late to force the price of cot ton down. For the adherents to the short side know fjull well the power of manipulation, especially when It finds a powerful ally In the speculative pub lic. Yours truly, GIBBRT & CLAY. COTTON PICKINGS. Moultrie, Ga, In n wire Price gives three reasons why we should have an extraordinary market: First, the practical exhaus tion of supplies at the end of this sea son; second, the certainty that at least 12,000,000 bales will he required next year, and lastly that considerable j doubt exists as to whether next year’s crop will he larger, If as large, as the ' crop just marketed. On contracts Liverpool responded to our advance of yesterday, but spot sales of only 8,000 at 1 point decline did not add to the galty of nations. Early cables denoted a steadiness quite remarkable In the face of such flattering crop accounts. Our opening was steady at un. changed prices. Buying by the Price clique sent De cember up 3 points soon after the opening. The 60,000 bales taken up by Price on May Is now being retailed out by that worthy at a handsome profit.
