FIELDS. According to the official schedule of the Georgia State League, Albany will play In Valdosta on the 28th, 29th and 30th Inst. But ns the State Associa tion of Elks meets here on the two latter dates, It Is probable that an ef fort will be made to bring about a swap with Valdosta, so that the visit ing Elks may take in two games of hall while here. Should this arrange ment not be perfected a game between two teams of Elks will probably be provided for one of the afternoons. A tale of horror was told by marks of human blood in- the home of J. W. Notice Is hereby given In terms of the law, that on the 12th day of May, 1900, at 9 o’clock a. m„ at the county courthouse at Newton, Georgia, will be heard before His Honor W. N. Spence, judge of the Superior Courts of the Albany Circuit, the case of the State of Georgia versus Baker County, the same being a proceeding to vali date 330,000 In gold bonds, recently au thorized at a special election by the qualified voters of Baker County, held on the 28th day of April, 1906, the pro ceeds of said bonds to be used for the purpose of building and erecting a new courthouse for Baker County at the county site thereof. This 10th day of May, 1906. H. A. LEDBETTER, Clerk Superior Court Baker County. A man wearing low-quarter shoes, filigree socks, u light straw hat, linen trousers and a seersucker coat came down town tills morning with his teeth chattering, Ills back humped up camel fashion and his fists thrust to the bot tom of his shallow Buinmer pockets. “S-s-s-seen any Ice 'smornln'?” he asked of an acquaintance at the post- office door. "Ice!" sneered the one addressed. "Go wake yourself up!” The fellow with the chattering teoth looked pityingly at the soofter. ”1 h-h-h-linte a b-b-b-b-bloomln’ Idiot," he remarked with as withering emphasis as ills condition made pos sible. "D-d-d-d-don’t yon know every thing's killed—f-f-f-frozen stiff? No c-c-c-c-cotton. no corn, no fruit — no n-n-n-n-nothln’ this yenr. T-t-t-t-tomp’. rature must’ve been 20 d-dil-degrees ’fore day ’smornln’. An’ I sold my overcoat, an’ my wife swapped my w-w-w-w-winter suit for May haws. ’Sawful about the crops.. Br-r-r-r-r-n" And he passed on, shivering, chat tering, humping Ills hack and looking generally miserable. • » • Albany’s brans hand Is coming along. It may be coming on a slow schedule, but It’s coming. It Isn’t nice to say funny things at the expense of a young and struggling hand. The best band In the world had to make a beginning, and even John Philip Sousa didn't set the world on fire at his first rehearsal. Albany’s band owns Itself. It hasn’t made a great whoop and hurrah by buying a whole lot‘of Instruments— on credit, to be paid for on tho Install ment plan. Every member has his own Instrument; and “it’s hlsn.” He Can blow It Whenever he pleases and as long at a time as fie likes, and It’s no body’s business hut his—and his neighbors’. For when a man joins a band and feels that It Is his religious duty to practice three timeB a day, Ills neigh bors are apt to manifest an Interest which may with proper cultivation be come decidedly painful. The new / ba;id was practicing last night In the auditorium. The audi torium, being large, absorbs sound amazingly, and Its advantages as a. hand meeting place are apparent. But seriously, Albany’s young hand is coming along bravely. Some of Its members are musicians of no little ex perience, and all ave animated by a 'determination to succeed. It will probably be several months before the band appears In public, but when that appearance’ does take place the pttbllo may receive something In the nature of a surprise. Just keep your eye on the ne w band. • » » Mr. R. C. Equipment for brewing a high grade beer- In installing our new plant we threw out equipment better than many breweries still use. Equipment is as important as excellence in material, and our plant is the most up-to-date in America. Machinery cleanses the malt kernels before use; machinery weighs all the ingredients, preserving just, accurate relative proportions WITHOUT GUESS WORK; and then the beer is cooled in pipes, where the air, even “filtered” air, is’absolutely excluded. The -wort that is to be American Queen takes its course from hopper to tuns, and after aging, on to the bottling plant thrdiigh pipe mechanisms which thoroughly insure its isolation and protection. Another invention pecu liar to our brewery makes and preserves the carbonic gas to be used in bottling. This adds immensely to the flavor. Finally, even the machinery used for cleanliness is cle.ansed every day before using. These lavish precautions make American Queen the most ex pensively brewed beer ybu can buy at the regular beer price. They enable us to economize in many departments and return the saving into quality of ingredients. Always call for American Queen wherever yon drink beer.
