NEW YORK COTTON LETTER.
(By Wire to Clark* Co.)
New York, May 10.
The frost episode of last night has
been of Infinite value to the bull Inter
est and Is being made much of. The
cold weather Is, of course, adverse to
crop developments and contributes to
make It late. JuSt such occurrences
as this are always liable In the spring
and proves how unwise It Is to sell
new erop positions prematurely.
Eaoh day the market Is affected by
new and contradictory Influences and
the trading Increasing. There Is no
one Influence of sufficient substance to
dominate the situation, but we are
gradually reaching a time when fluc
tuations will follow the changing ten
or of the newB for and agalnBt prices.
On the whole, the sentiment is more
sensitive on the bullish lifluences as
the necessity for a large crop Is gen
erally acknowledged.
In the local market there Is a con
stant liquidation of the old crop posJ:
‘tlons by those who are buying Octo
ber, hut as yet the larger roam traders
are doing little. Yours truly,

COTTON PICKINGS.
Furnished for Dally Herald Reader,
by Clark & Co.
The Englishman came as ^ue—rf
better on spots and futures. Sales of
10,000 bales at the advance shows a
healthy condition.
Liverpool gossip: All offerings
quickly absorbed at ruling quotations.
At the moment weather conditions
certainly favor advocates of higher
prices, and yet the big crop was made
on the coolest spring and summer ever
known.
Price says: "He that runs may
read, and, unless all signs fall, the
market will work very much higher.”
A light frost fell ns far south as
Atlanta. In Tennessee there was some
snow.
Warm days and warmer nights
would help the crop, but would It help
the market?
The 31,000,000 acre fiend is abroad
in the land.
Poyt receipts were 9,000 against 15,-
000 last year.
The New York professionals who
are ever ready “market milkers,” ap
pear to be afraid of the market
Liverpool closed 7 higher for the
day.

Is probable that you got hold of one

NEW CRLEAN8 COTTON LETTER
By wlro fo Clark A Co.
New Orleans, La., May 10.
There was a dearth of news from
Liverpool today, but options closed
very steady at 6 points over yesterday.
Sales of spots amounted to 10,000
bales at 3 points advance, 2,000 bales
done after hours yesterday making the
total 10,000.
The unseasonable weather over the
belt caused further covering by shorts,
and Inspired increased activity on part
of bulls who, while endeavoring to
take advantage of the opportunities
presented were unable'to cause any
marked Improvement in . prices. It is
hardly probable that damage to the
new crop has been as serious as the
bull leader would have the trade be
lieve, but numerous accountsvare re
ceived from points where low tempera
tures were experienced stating that
injury has resulted, and In some sec
tions replanting will be necessary.
Manipulation may bring about a fur
ther advance, but the danger from this
source has been greatly lessened of
late by the new attitude that the south
has assumed in not only showing a
disposition to cover a large portion of
their short interests in the fall months
but also to become more favorable to
higher values for these positions.
Yours truly,
GIBERT & CLAY.
