Provided, that the- division of the diocese is conditional upon the legal division of the funds of the dio cese, as provided herein.” N The following diocesan officers were elected this afternoon: Chancellor—Frank H. Miller, of Au gusta. Rogistrar- lanta. Treasurer- Augusta. The Bishop appointed the following arch-deacons.:,, .<* Albany—Von.. G. Sherwood Whitney. Athens—Ven. Troy Beatty. Macon—Ven. William Bobler Walker. Savannah—Ven. Harry Cassil. It was voted to hold the last conven tion of the present diocese in Christ’s Church, Savannah, on the third Wed nesday in next May. Columbus, Ga., May 17.—Division of the Diocese of Georgia will be made, and the southeastern division, the sec tion in which Savannah is located, re tains the title, “The Diocose of Geor gia.” The Episcopal convention so de cided today after a; discussion lasting for hours, in which representatives of both sections of the state explained their views at. length. The convention was. unanimously in favor of division. The territorial division as suggested by the committee met with approval. The proposed division of the diocesan funds was declared to be fair and prop er, and tho only serious division of opinion was on the question of name. It was largely Atlanta vs. Savannah in the debate this morning, the Sa vannah delegates claiming that the poutheastern division, being the oldest portion of the dioCese and furnishing most of the diocesan funds, should re tain the title, “Diocese s of Georgia,” while the Atlanta delegates contended that It would be unfair to designate either division of the diocese by the rather misleading name of “Diocese of Georgia. The report of tho committee was adopted unanimously, and the diocesan division becomes an accomplished fact when the formality of ratification by the general convention next year has 'been gone through with. The report follows: MResolved, first, that the present dio cese of Georgia be divided into separ ate dioceses, as follows: By a line be ginning at the state line at Columbia county and ruuning north and' west from said junction of the state line of Columbia county and continue north arid west of the counties of Columbia, McDuffie, Glascock, Washington, Wil kinson, Twiggs, Pulaski, Sumter, 1 Web ster and Stewart, and that the portion Phil Harris Loading Optician, If yon ate going to Invest In Albany, realty give us an opportunity to show you how to doublo your capital.
