THE, ALBANY DAILY HERALD, SATURDAY, MAY 19, 1906. t f f t f t f t t f f Y t t f t t Y Y Y T f t Y Y t Y ❖ Imitation the Sincerest Flattery \ The best articles which have won popular favor through genuine merit are always imitated. “BOHEMIAN EXPORT BEER,” that UNEXCELLED BREW of the ACME BREWING COMPANY, has been set up as a standard by many imitators. These imitators are wonderfully successful in getting names that sound like ours, and bottles that look like ours, but they can never get a beer that tastes like ours. The wonderful qualities of the genuine “BOHEMIAN EXPORT” are the results of a careful and. competent brewing, such as cheap imi tators can not do. Be sure that the label contains the name of “Acme Brewing Co., Macon, Ga.,” a guaranty of excellence.- Original BOHEMIAN EXPORT is sold only at the following places in Albany: Price & McLarty W. B. STRAIGHT TALK ABOUTBASEBALL. The Albany Team Is Not Paying—Another Town Is After It—How About It, Albany Fans? Here Is some straight talk. It Is intended for those who are in terested in baseball, and who want to see the games on the home grounds continue. So prick up your ears and listen. Did you know that the crowds that have been attending the games played on the home grounds have been the smallest in the league circuit? Did you know that in Columbus, Waycross and Valdosta the crowds have been very much larger at all the games’than have witnessed the games in this burg? Did you know that In Cordele, a smaller place, the same rule holds good ? Did you know that at Amerlcus, in spite of the fact that the Amerlcus team has not won a single game, the attendance has been much larger than it has been here? Did you know ail these things? And do you realise that ball teams cannot be run on hot air?—that it takes the long green to pull the man agement over 'the rough road It is obliged to travel? , And you, Kir. Knocker, with your Infernal little tack-hammer and your superior wisdom about running ball teams and winning pennants, what 11 cense have you to stir up the dust and emit a cloud of smoke every time base ball is mentioned? Now listen: The Albany team is not, to date, a paying proposition. It Is not a paying proposition simply because the people of Albany have not turned out in sufficient numbers to see the games that have been played. Manager J. W. Thomas took charge of the Albany team without asking the people of Albany to advance a penny or guarantee a dollar. He “went it alone,” relying upon the assurances of the people of this city that they would support a good team. Manager Thomas said: "If these players I have gathered to represent Albany cannot play winning ball, I will get others." He is still willing to make his prom ise good. He has added good material to the team during the last few days and i» going to add more. Now what Is the record of the team? They won the Cordele series away from home. They won the Columbus series on the home grounds, and took one of the three Columbus games in the enemy’s camp. In the practice se ries at home with Valdosta, they won two of the three games. They were badly beaten in Waycross Thursday for the very simple reason that they made the mistake of trying out a new pitcher who was an unknown quantity, or else who was badly out of condi tion. Now: Quit knocking. Attend the games when the team plays at home. Root for it. When the fellow at your elbow begins to knock, close his mouth. Run him out of the grounds. Tell him that he Is a misfit, and let him see that you mean it. Then watch the difference. Tho re ceipts of the games’ will swell, and the management of the team will be in position to make good. And it will make good. The season is young yet Even Amerlcus may wind up at or near the top of the column. Now listen again: If you continue to knock; if you do not do what you can to got good crowds out to see the games, ALBANY WILL SHORTLY HAVE NO TEAM. That’s the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. There is a live town not many miles from Albany that wants our ball team. And she is trying to get it. She has asked for it, an*d is ready to put up the hard cash to meet whatever requirements may be laid before her. It is a case of Albany or the other town. Albany has the advantage of possession, but the other town Is de termined. I Now, Mr. Fan, how about it? The facts are before you, and these words are spoken with authority. Depend upon that. Baseball in the summer time is a good thing for any town. It helps all classes. It makes the long summer shorter and the hot days more endurable. I We all declared we wanted profes sional ball this summer. Now, as a matter of fact, do we? The immediate future will tell. i In conclusion: ’ 1 Waycross comes Monday for three games. A great deal — a very great deal — depends upon the attendance upon those games. I We have given “a word to the wise.” Will It prove sufficient? Do You Use a Fountain Pen? Then see our $1.00 special.
