ANSWERS CAME
WITH A RUSH.
Store WaB Advertised for Rent, and
Applicants Overwhelmed the Adver
tiser.
A small advertisement In Friday’s
Herald lmd received forty answers by
10 o’clock Saturday morning.
There are two reasons why the an
swers were so prompt end so numer
ous.
It was a store for rent which tho ad
vertiser had to offer, and
Tho advertisement was in The Her
ald.
■ In a little notice occupying less than
an Inch of spnee, Mr. S. E. Serutchlns
Informed the public through The Her
ald Friday afternoon thnt he had a
store on Brood street which lie desired
to rent. He 1ms the store leased for a
term of ten months, but will not con
tinue In business, nnd desires to sub
let the premises.
The Herald was hardly on the
streets before answers to his adver
tisement began to pour in on Mr.
Serutchlns. They came with a"rush?
and. every applicant meant business.
At 10 o’clock next morning Mr.
Serutchlns sent The Herald a distress
signal. "Cut out that advertisement," -
i said. “I have jmst received the for
tieth response. I’m tired telling folks
they are too late.”
’if forty peoplo want stores in Al
bany, forty stores could he rented.
That is an easy proposition. Some of
the stores would necessarily be small,
but others would havo to be large.
The city where there Is a demand
for forty stores Is all right.
But the city that has forty people in
it looking for places in which to do
business ought to devise ways and
means of meeting the demand. Fail
ing in this, she strews obstacles in her
own pnthwuy.
Wanted: More stores and more
houses to help Albany in her march of
progress.,—
SAVANNAH IS
COUNTING ON
Being the Place of Residence of the
Bishop.
There are two more weeks of study
ahead of tho pupils of the Albany
Academy. The closing exercises of
the term will be informal,’ and will be
held at the Academy on Friday, June
1st.
A tale of horror wa$ told by marks
of human blood In the home of J. W.
Williams, a well-known merchant of
Bac, Ky. He writes: "Twenty years
ago I had severe hemorrhages of the
lungs, nnd was near death when I be
gan taking Dr. King’s New Discovery.
It completely cured me and I have re
mained well ever since.” It cures
Hemorrhages, Chronic Coughs, Set
tled Colds and Bronchitis, nnd is the
only known cure for Weak Lungs.

Special to The Herald.
Savannah, Ga., May 21.—Savannah
is counting very heavily upon being
the place of residence of the Episcopal
bishop of Georgia now that the state
has been divided Into dioceses. Savan
nah and Augusta are the only two
cities left In the original diocese, and
It Is believed that when the bishop for
it Is chosbn that he will elect to live
in Savannah rather than Augusta.
The churches In Brunswick, Albany
and Valdosta are all much more easily
accessible from Savannah, and for that
reason it is believed the bishop, who
ever lie may be, would prefer living
here than any other place in the dio
cese.
Savannah is'much pleased that the
state was divided into two dioceses. It
was what has been wanted here for a
long time.
SHADE TREES
NEED TRIMMING.
Tile best safeguard agqinst head
ache, constipation and liver troubles is
Dewitt’s Little Early Risers. Keep a
vial of these famous little pills in the
house and take a dose nt bedtime when
you feel that the stomach and bowels
need cleansing. They don’t gripe.
Sold by Albany Drug Co., Hilsman-Snle
Drug Co.
Several people have been speaking
lately of the low hanging limbs on the
trees on Broad street. They are al
most a nuisance, If it is allowed to
speak of the trees in that way.. Broad
street Is noted for its beautiful trees,
and that, either by neglect or by over
sight, they have been allowed to go
untrimmed so long is to be deplored.
One lady said that she had . all but
ruined a hat In walking along under
the low hanging boughs. Now to have
anything to happen to a hat—a spring
hat—Is an unpardonable offense with
one of the gentler sex, and she was
justly indignant, and a prominent cit
izen, a gentleman who has been a res
ident of Albany for many years, called
attention to the fact that the trees
needing trimming. Riding on a wheel
under them is a very unpleasant thing,
and on a rainy day it is an impossibil
ity almost to use nn umbrella along
there.
