Saving Thousands of Dollars > to Albanians and South Georgians
Take a store that for years has been recognized as “THE QUALITY STORE” of a progressive city, take this store when it had reached the zenith of its
greatness — with stocks larger and more competently bought than ever — take the big, glorious stock of quality merchandise that was a delight to the economical
and a joy to the admirer of the beautiful — take such a stock, we say, and mark down already astonishingly low prices an average of thirty-five per cent., and you
would have just such a sale as is this great H., J. & Co. Dissolution Sale. For that’s just what we have done. Just that, and we insist that the unparalleled business of
the opening days of the sale were but the natural result of a, combination of unusual quality and unprecedented prices.

ASKS FOR
To Build from Albany in a
Southwesterly Direction
to the Gulf — The Sixth
Entry.
Still another!
A railroad!
This is the sixth.
That is* to say, it is the sixth dis
tinct movement looking to "the con
struction of a line in a southerly or
southwesterly direction from Albany,
with a port on the Gulf of Mexico as
the objective point. •
One of these movements is directed
by the Albany & Northern railway, an
other by the Georgia, Florida & Ala
bama railway, a third by Albany, Col
quitt and Bainbrldge business men, a
fourth by another set of business men
representing Newton, Camilla, Cairo,
Quincy and Albany, and a fifth by Sa
vannah, Pittsburg mid Chicago capi
talists, interested with whom are De
catur and Baker county parties and
one resident of Florida.
Now comes the sixth Richmond in
the field. Number six is the Central
of Georgia railway. That is ( not ex
actly the name of the proposed road
as it appears in the charter applica
tion, but there can be no doubt that
the enterprising Central is the power
behind the enterprise.
The Georgia Central & Gulf Rail
way Company is the exact style of the
proposed corporation. The petitioners
are J. F. Hanson, president of the
Central of Georgia railway; A. R. Law-
ton, of general counsel and a member
of the board of directors; H. C. Cun
ningham. of tho firm of Lawton &
Cunningham, general counsel; T. M.
Cunningham, treasurer of the Central;
W. A,. Winburn, traffic manager, and
T. S. Molse, general superintendent;
C. C. Williams, of Bibb county, and
W. D. Beymer, H. W. Johnson and
George H. Richter, of Chatham coun
ty.
The line as proposed is “to run
through the counties of Dougherty,
Balter, Miller and Decatur, Georgia,
and Gadsden, Leon, Liberty, Wakulla
and Franklin, Florida. The length
thereof/ as nearly as can be estimated,
will be, in Georgia, about 75 miles,
and in Florida about ten miles from
the Florida state line to Quincy, and
about 72 miles from Quincy to Apa
lachicola, making an aggregate length
of railroad in Georgia and Florida of
about 157 miles. The general direc
tion in which it is to run from Albany
is a little west of south.”
The petitioners aver that they in
tend in good faith to go forward with
the work of securing subscriptions to
the capital stock and building the
road, and to maintain and operate the
same.
What now?
With six rival concerns on the
track, and with four of these evidently
very much alive, can there be a great
deal of doubt that a road will be built
in the very near future?
And the entries have not yet been
closed. There may be others coming.
'May the best promoters win. What
the section wants is the road.
