NEW OR1EAN8 COTTON LETTER
By wire to Clerk A Co.
New Orleans, La., May 24.—Options
In Liverpool fully responded to the
Blight advance yesterday In the Amur
lean market, and closing prices showed
a gain of two points, while the total
spot sales amounted to 12,000 bales at
a loss of one point. The only foreign
news of consequence was to the effect
that the Indian drought hud been bro
ken and this at such an early date
was x generally considered as very fa
vorable. The map today was very
good In that localities that were much
In need of moisture, especially In the
western belt, had been visited by rains
that were beneflclal to the growing
crop.
The disturbance over the South At
lantic coast has caused general rains
to occur in that section, and prospectB
for tomorrow are for a furtherance of
these conditions, especially In Georgia,
.where the plants are still reported In
need of moisture. Frequent attempts
have been made and are still being
made to estimate the acreage of the
forthcoming crop, and the remarkable
part Is that the majority of such esti
mates range below a 4 per cent. In
crease. Whether or not they /reflect
the true percentage remains to be
Been on June 4. That day being u
holiday In Louisiana, a request for a
postponement to the following day
was muds by this exchange, but the
answer given intimates that there ts
vory little chance of the government
deviating from its orlginnl Intention.
