The declining demand lor spot cot ton nbroad was responsible In a large measure for the easiness those options displayed In the earlier session of the Liverpool market, also there must have been considerable selling on the part of American Interest to bring about the net decline of 7 points that options recorded on the close. Spot sales amounted to 8,000 bales, 2 points lower. The bears had the market firmly in their grip today and manipulated the prices to suit their own Interest. New York started the decline with a small -raid, which appeared so easy of con summation that the selling became general, not only In tho eastern mar ket but likewise here, and the liquida tion that had been quietly proceeding was quickened by the dislodgement of stop orders. Attention was dally becoming more clearly centered on reports from the new crop. Heretofore, this has been a fact In a lesser degree, but Interest has largely been divided with the pros, pect of a more general exhaustion of present day supplies. However, the close proximity to the date on which the government will issue Its last esti mate of acreage and conditions of the forthcoming crop eclipses all other news Items concerning the trade, and with Its publication will set at rest momentarily the many theories and contentions that have hitherto been advanced. The trade in general ex pects a high condition figure and an increase in acreage somewhat in ex cess of the majority of estimates. Yours truly, GIBERT & CLAY.
