NEW ORLEANS COTTON LETTER.
By wire to Clark & Oo.
New OrleanB, June 6.
Liverpool was surprisingly good and
more than made amends for the weak
ness displayed yesterday. Options in
the net result were from 4 to 5 points
higher than yesterday’s close. Sales
of spots, however, were disappointing,
only 4,000 bales having changed hands,
but the quietness in this department
can In all probability ho attributed to
the near proximity of the three days
holiday which the foreign market will
have on the 8th, 9th and 10th,'
Bullish advices were rather In the
ascendant during the day and had the
effect of creating considerable caution
In the ranks of the short element.
Only once in the early trading was
ntiy attempt mado to force prices down
but the market exhibited so much re
sistance that prices soon recovered
the slight loss occasioned and ruled
steady with an excellent undertone
the balance of the session.
Private reports from Texas Indi
cated In several localities a super
abundance of moisture which has de
layed work considerably, although so
excellent has the weather been thus
far, that the advent of anything un
fnvorablo is almost sure to lessen the
bearish operations that, have so long
predominated, and bring about an en
hancement in values.
Yours very truly,
GIBERT & CLAY.

Liverpool was 2 to 3 better on fu
tures, hut spots were 6 lower on sales
of only 4,000 hales. The spot demand
was decidedly limited.
Gossip by cable said; “Only inter
est Is In crop reports, and if continue
favorable we will gradually work
lower.”
Our opening was fairly steady at 2
points advance, but this was quickly
lost.

The market lacks speculative sup

The man who buys cotton in the face
of present conditions Is simply walk

open grave.
■ Three more weeks of sunshine will
give a crop condition of 90 In July.
“Some folks say" we cannot make
more than 11,000,000 on the “reported”
acreage. In 1898 on an acreage of
23,000,000 the crop was 11,250,000.

TALKING FEET TO CELEBRITY.
