Not because we have not had the bargains to offer men, but simply because we’ve been so busy with the ladies
since the great sale commenced is our reason for not devoting more special attention to our men’s. department. When
you consider, gentlemen, that an average reduction of one third has been marked on the superb H. J. & Co. stocks of
silks, wash goods, all dress accessories, household goods and ready-to-wear, you can readily understand why we have
been a little delayed in getting to you. But if you have doubts as to the great savings of the dissolution sale in our
men’s furnishing lines, you have only to look over the prices quoted below. If these do not convince you, come to the
store and see for yourself.

Arc you considering ways
and Means for securing the
best things of life for your
family? Surely one of these
is to own your home, to have
your household relieved of,
the “rolling stone” habit of;
the renter. Maybe you don't
know that we can accomplish i
' this for you. By a monthly
payment for a li\nited period,
■ of substantially what you
have been paying as house

instead of renter. Let us ex
plain details.
The Albany Baseball Company Is a
home enterprise that should receive
the warmest support of the public.,
The owners of the Albany base ball
franchise are now Albany people who
felt enough pride In Albnny and Inter
est In sport to go down In their pock
ets and pull out a large bunch of
money to buy the team and put It on
its feet again. These men are not will
ing for the nows to go out that Albany
could not support n ball team. They
were not willing that Albany should
lose the advertising which a base ball
club gives a city. They were willing,
In order that Albany might enjoy such
benefits ns are derived from a ball
club, and that the people of this city
should be permitted to enjoy some
good summer sport—they wero will
ing to go down into their pockets for
$1,000.
In view of these facts It Is no more
than Just that the public should pa
tronize the games more liberally. Two
hundred and forty people saw the
game yesterday. There should have
been 800 or 1,000. The small crowd
was treated to one of the cleanest,
prettiest, exhibitions ' of the great
American game that has ever been
played on a Georgia diamond. A small
crowd saw the game Monday, one of
tho most Interesting contests seen
here this season.
Albany lost, both games, tt is true,
but It took hard tights to get them and
tho contests were Just ns interesting,
even though the results were not as
pleasing, ns If the scores had been re:
versed. The point is this: There is
good sport at the hall park these af
ternoons and the person who patron
izes the games gets his money’s
worth every time.
A hoodoo has followed the Albany
team all tho soason. There has been
a number of rainy days, and those

only cost the expenses of the local
team, hut a $40 forfeit has to be paid
, to the visiting team. The roof of one
' of the grandstands blew off during the
storm Tuesday. This was another
piece of hard luck and another ex
pense. Several new players are being
secured by the Albany’ mnnagers, and
tills means more expense.
There is no excuse now for the peo
ple not to attend the games In large
numbers. The A. & N. road runs
trains out to the pnrk for every game,
making it convenient to reach, the
park. The games are worth seeing,
and the patronage will bo given, a
local enterprise. There Is every rea
son why a big crowd should witness
every game.
The management Is specially desir
ous that more ladles attend the games.
Tho attendance of ladie3 so far this
season has been much smaller than It
should be. Boys under 12 should line
the bleachers now, since the admis
sion for boys of that age has been out
to 15 cents.
Let’s all go out to see the games
now and patronize a home Industry
that Is doing everything possible to
deserve our patronage.

CHARGED WITH
HORSE STEALING.
Woman Hired a Team from an Atlanta
Stable and Failed to Return It.
Special to The Herald.
Atlanta, Ga., June 14.—Two women
from Greensboro, wiio gave the names
of Miss Clara Clark and Mrs. Blanche
Clark, were yesterday Indicted on a
charge of horse stealing by the Fulton
grand jury. *
They were arrested recently and
brought to Atlanta, being charged with
hiring a horse and buggy from the
Booth stables, on West Hunter ^street,
and then failing to return the animal
or the vehicle. One of the women, it
is charged, went to the stables and
said she wanted to hire a horse and
buggy until 6 o’clock. That was in
the morning. That night, the woman
and the horse having failed to appear
inquiries were made by the owner and
the police wero notified.
Someone at Lithonia, seeing an ac
count of the loss as it appeared in an
afternoon paper, remembered having
seen two women riding in a trap simi
lar to that described in the article.
This person notified Booth, and the
liveryman was enabled to track the
stolen property to Greensboro, where
the women were arrested. They say
they bought the team from someone
else.

CANTIES WERE
ROUGHLY HANDLED.
Growers Say Storm Was Not Gentle
In Treament of Tender Crop.
A prominent cantaloupe grower of
Dougherty county stated to a Herald
man this morning that cantaloupe
vines showed ' plainly the severely
blighting effects of the hard wind of
Tuesday afternoon.
Another grower Is authority for the
statement that many of the melons
that were well on their way to ma
turity were considerably bruised as
the result of the rough handling re
ceived at the hands of the storm, and
will be less salable than they would
have been had nothing occurred to
Injure their appearance.
Tuesday’s blow was one of the
sweeping, twisting kind. It cut across
fields at thirty miles an hour, bending
cornstalks nearly to the ground and
Inflicting more or less damage upon
everything that grew. It blew from
the trees hundreds of bushels of
peaches, pears and plums.
But the tender cantaloupe vines
fared worse than most of the other
growing things. The very small mel
ons were In some cases beaten off the
vines, and others were so badly
bruised that they will never mature.
Watermelons are a hardier crop,
though even they bear the marks of
rough handling.
Cantaloupe shipments will begin the
first of next week, and will be In full
swing ten days hence.
