NEW REMEDY FOR
APPENDICITIS
Which

Have Been Discovered.
May
From Harper’s Weekly.
“Much has been Bald on the subject
of the treatment of appendicitis, princi
pally : jvith reference to the question
whether,, in a given case, an operation
must be performed to save the life of
the patient,” says an eminent physi
cian and surgeon who has recently
been in Germany for the purpose of
studying this disease. “It would doubt
less be a great boon if a remedy could
be found to make an operation un
necessary,” continued the doctor.
Such a remedy, it is alleged, has been
found under the name of “collangol. 1
Collangol ts a form of pure silver solu
ble in water, which is of recent discov
ery. The antiseptic property of silver
has long been known. Based upon this
knowledge, successful experiments
have-been made by some noted Ger
man physicians through the use of the'
soluble. The treatment, according to
his statement, has yielded extraordi
narily good results after three days.
Excepting two very severe cases out
of seventy-two which came under his
observation, all were cured without
any surgical operation. It is claimed
that this treatment is very much su
perior to any other; "and I am satis
fied,” says the physician, “in stating
that every case o'f appendicitis, if early
diagnosed, be it ever so acute and ma
lignant, can be cured with collangol
without resorting to the knife.”
