Ths Exposition.
Tit * Worlds Exposition is
xv nv on boom. The govern
m -nt, it is thought will make
the much needed loan of §500,
000 : anti the hitherto rather
bine, managers are jubilant,
The Exposition pays latgely
< i >r its expenses.
This news will carry joy to
ti nsands of hearts. While it
i- true this enterprise is inter
li itional in its design scope and
display yet had it failed no
<i uibt the south would have
shared more largely than any
wilier section of country in the
■ - vmthumiliation, and it would
have been more damaging to
her geneuil prosperity. The
days ol the Mardgras festivi-
11 have passed; and still thou¬
sands of anxious visitors crowd
the many trains that move
grandly toward the crescent
•ity. Good news, swift as
lightning, flies through all the
civilized world; and it is now
firmly believed that the expo¬
sition is destined to become a
' success.
We give it as our humble
opinion that it is worthy of
complete success, We believe
than the impulse given by it
to our varied, growing, devel
oping, industries will be of in
com putable value to our repub
lie and to the world. Many
different nations are here rep¬
resented and the various pro¬
fessions and occupations of
mankind may each find follow¬
ers in 15/ moving mass of visi
tors that daily crowd the
IT' unds. The farmer finds
here the .most improved wheat, ma¬
chinery, hie finest grains,
OOt’Il, barley, etc. The stock
display is good, from the fine
dappled Norman to the pig
mied Chinese giant.
r J'he poultry exhibit is inertest
ing: but time and space forbids
more than bare mention of a
lew of its many attractions.
The fact is, there is so much
to be seen that the imagination
uidertaking to help out tilt
eye gets bewildered and the
dazzling, whizzing, roaring con¬
fusion is such that one must
patiently wait until the
spell is broken that he may get
an intelligent conception of
that which is before him. The
main building covering a large
area of ground, is fiilled with
the enterprise and brains of the
world But we found the
Government building more
interesting to us. Here are
the displays of tlu various
siates which simply beggar
description and we candidly
say to our readers go and
-see.
We saw here the beautiful, the
ridiculous, the grand, the ludi¬
crous, the great, the small, the
wonderful, the novel so blended
that the picture presented is
so captivating that one inline
i iia'ely sm renders, becoming a
willing captive to its charms.
The world in miniature, one
steps from island to island
from republic to republic ftom
king l> n to kingdom. Now
amid the regions of eternal ice
gazing intently on the funny
fur-chid Esquimaux—observ¬
ing * he I lashing eyes of the
HUil> polar bear, and many
oil VS objects whieh "live and
die greet'd continually by
wailing snow storms or the icy
bosom of the Polar sea. Theu
n and in a moment find your
self when flowers bloom and
birds sing the whole year round.
Oranges growing and luscious
fruits tempting the palate of
the most fastidons. Here iu a
tiina too short to mention you
pass from one extreme of dim
ate to another, flow delightful
to escape the chill of the ice
bound regions of the “cloudy
north,” and find yourself instan¬
tly in an eden of fresh magno -
lias, the very atmosphere preg¬
nant with perfume, the whole
picture so full of sunshine and
animation that one is quickly
bewitched by the spleudor of
its unrivaled beauty.
We edit our paper this week
from the jail, where we are liv¬
ing for the present We have
been put in the jug for a month
because we resented an insult
offered us by the pin feather
journalist who trie- to run an
opposition paper in this town.
But if lie thinks he will muzzle
the press in this way he is mis¬
taken- Like Edm >nd Yates
we shall come out of jail stron¬
ger than ever and shall take
our place in the world with
lenewed vigor and sfrength.
A month is not a long time to
a man with a good »onscieire,
which is our case. We would
request our friends to turn in
all items of news to the gentle¬
manly jailer, who will give
them to us.—Arizona Sea
Gull.
Medical News: The way to
get the bwtter of our bilious
system without blue pills or
quinine is to take the juice of
one, two or three lemons, as
appetite craves, in as much wa¬
ter as makes it pleasant to
drink without sugai, before
going to bed. In the morning
on rising, at least half an hou'
before, breakfast, take the juice
of one lemon in a goblet of w i
ter. This will dear the system
f humor and bile with efficien¬
cy, without any of the weaken¬
ing effect of calomel. People
Should not irritate ill. Stomach
by eating lomons clear; the
powerful acid of the juice,
wliice is always most corrosi ve,
invariably product s inflamma¬
tion after awhile, but, properly
diluted, so that it does not
burn or draw the throat, it
does its medicinl work wirh
out harm, and, when the atom
ach is clear of food, has abun¬
dant opportunity to work over
the system thoroughly.
The Roman Catholic bishop
of Shieldabury has issued a
vigorous pastoral letti’r in
which he.denounces the dyna¬
miters as “pests, scourges, ene¬
mies to God and man,” and as
“assassins striking in the
dark.”
An ol<l carpel, was recently
lifted from the flooi of the San
Francico mint; and jitter it hatl
been burned, there was silted
from its ashes gold, amounting
to $2,509.
