THURSDAY . JUNE lO 18:8®.
We, the Democratic Execu¬
tive Committee of Murray
county, in defference to the
wisj) of the people do hereby
revoke so much of the former
call a» ’ elates to the nomina¬
tion of a candidate to represent
the county in the lower house
of the next Gene al Assembly.
W. Luffman, Cbm’n, A K
Ramsey, B B Brown, J H
Rulin, J R Harris.
The People Will Name the Man.
The voters of Murray will
' remember that some time ago
there was published a call from
the demociaticexecutive com¬
mittee, of this county, asking
the nine malitia districts to hold
meetings and select delegates
to meet in convention and nom¬
inate a candidate to make the
race for Representative, and al
so for fins convention, compos¬
ed of the delegates sent up
from the different districts of
the county, to select delegates
from Murray to meet the dele¬
gates of Whitfield and Gordon,
in convention, tor the purpose
of nominating a candidate to
make the race for the senate.
In this, issue our readers will
notice that the democratic ex¬
ecutive committee have revok¬
ed so nuHi of the call referred
to above as relates to the nom¬
ination of a candidate to make
the race for Representajave,
Anil there will be no nonn^ra -
tion for Representative, but all
who desire can make' the race,
leaving their political destiny
directly to the people. No one
, can make any val|d objection
to this action of the^committee,
because there is now virtually
but one party in Murray, and
a nomination instead of pre¬
serving unity and hannonvin
the part}’, would create divhe
ion and strife, thereby (bvfott
ing the primary object of all
democratic conventions and
nominations. This action
Mights tho hopes of aJ] aspi¬
rants, if there lie any, who ex¬
pected to sliji around through
the districts and by skillful
“wire working” secretly scheme
themselves into the nomination.
To use a classical phrase “the
longest pole will knock the
persimmon.” And all persons
who have a desire to go to the
legislature now have a chance
to submit their claims, on an
equal footing, to the dear peo¬
ple. Walk out gentlemen and
test your strength aud if beat¬
en, retire like men and don’t
foiee the people to have *to
drench you with two or three
defeats I,,-:.»re you are satisfied
