Mr Edmondson, it is said, is
going to have a cotton gin erect
ed at the Holly Creek mills in
time for this year's crop, and is
going to use cotton bagging ex¬
clusively.
Look out there, don't fall that
tree on a candidate; they are get¬
ting quite thick, and not very far
between.

A lively time is expected at the
Eighth today.
Boat! working is in order now,
since ccnrt is ne ir at hand.
A great many hogs are reported
to have died in the west end of the
Eighth district, this county, near
Tilton, of late. Eff,

Biscnit is likely to be scarce in
our beat next year—Threeing ma¬
chines are unknown in our section.
Politics, like religion, is at a low
ebb.
Last Saturday we had the honor^
ns well as the pleasure, of hearing
Messers. Ramsey, Gilbert and Rem
bert, also Hon. J M Harlan of Gor¬
don county, address the people
of the Eighth on the political is¬
sues of the day.
We have ono advantage in point
of education—two schools. When
the youDg idea 6boots bis pop-gun
at his teacher, he can then “cuss
him out,” and enter the other
school without any embarrassment
whatever, save blood stains on the
upper quurler deck. Socbati s,

A worthy member.
Political.
Fellow CStizene!
As I have announced my name
as a dandidhte to represent you in
the next legislatuie, it is right that
yon -hould know what I am for'
and wh»t I will vote for if elected
1st. I am in favor of members
of the legislature receiving a salary
of $200 with mileage to and from
the capitol, end it they want to
stay 150 day a let them stay on
their own expense and not at
ti e expense ot the tax payers.
2nd. I am not in favor of Bet¬
terments to the Lessees of the W.
& A. R. R.—not a dollar will I vote
them under any circumstances.
3rd. I wili vote I r the best bill
having lor its aim the bettering of
the common school system; I be*
lieve it would be best to abolish
the state and county school com¬
missioners and to put their salaries
in tho common school fund and let
the patrons of each school select 3
suitable trustees for the school and
let the school fupd be managed on
the old plan.
4th. I will vote to abolish the
inspector of guano and let it be
sold on its merits or guarantee - , if
not good, not pay for it; and put
the salary of the inspector in the
common school fund.
5th. I will vote for no bill that
does not tive, ‘’equal rights to all
and special favors to none.’’
Glh. I am in favor of abolishing
tippling shops and saloons for the
retailing of spirits in 1he state.
We Lave a law for the county, good
enough if put in force. I believe
the retail grocery is the Avorsf
thing to demoralize our boys that
could be, and even our best citizens
might be better off. Any man
can make a drunkard, but it takes
a man to make a sober man. •
7th, I have no one in vioav. if
elected, to vo^e tor, for United
State yeDate, and will vote for no
man that#does not pledge himself
to oppose ttoo protective tariff and
all trusts and monopolies, Force
Bill and class legislation.

The School’ , nsD.
The cross amount ot the schodl
fund for 1890 is $943,420.14.
The figures are giyen by Captain
0 M Furlow, of the comptroller
geneial‘8 department.
‘‘And that,” remarked the cap.
tain, as the figuting was comp eted,
*‘is the high-water mark in the
history cf education in the state.
Last year the net- amount was
$490.70314. The largest ever
known up to that date.
“From the gross amount $643.-
420.14 is to be deducted the ex¬
pense account < t the commission¬
ers ofiice, $4,764 09, leaving a net
amount of $638,656.05.
“Of (hat amount, you remember,
$330,000 w?s raised on the special
tax of one mill. Last year the
amount raised in this way, by lovy <
was $165,000.
“The fund this year would have
been larger but for Snelson‘s bill,
passed by the last legislature, re¬
ducing the inspection fees on l'er
tijizei s from 20 cents to 10 c a nts.
L ist year the inspection less ad¬
ded $92,186 to the Rchool fund;
this year it was only $17,451.
“The inspectors get just as much
out. of the fefes as they ever did,
and the guano costs the farmer
exactly as much us it did last year.
The only effect of the law is to
decrease the amount of the school
fund,”—Const it nt ion.
