Col. W H Tibbs, of Dalton, came
very near losing his life while cross
ing a small ttream near Tilton on
last Friday. He drove his carriage
in, thinking he could cross with
safety, but the back water from
the river had floated the b idge off
its bed and his team plunged in
and tbe Colonel went out over tho
back of the carriage and waded wa¬
ter up to his neck in getting out.
He then called for help aud the
team was rescued but was too much
exhaust«d to trave and was left on
tho bank of the stream. Colonel's
iron Viiil was all that saved him.
