A party of twelve ladies and gen- lemen from Burnesville, Ga. has just returned from an excursion to Cum berland Island, where they have been luxuriating for the post week. They bestow unmeasured praise upon ev erything connected wllh the trip, and declare that uu excursion to Cumber land far surpasses any otlierin -the State, unless of n similar character. They chartered the schooner Quick step, Capt. Ntfble, for the round trip, stopping whilst on the Island with Mr. Clubb. df the “Qriental House.” They cume back laden with curiosi ties, such as shells, grasses, sen-weed, moss, 'etc., and have gone back to Bnrnesvilh* to send all of their neigh bors. Some came down as invalids, but went back robust and well—de claring nothing so bracing as the delightful sea-air -of Cumberland. The above steamer arrived here iu due season, on Thursday last, and left the following day for New York. She had on board about fifty passengers, besides a large freight of naval stores, vegetables, turtles, etc. Wo were shown through this elegrnt steamer by her courteous and gentlemanly commander, Capt. Faircloth. The Captain expressed himself ns highly pleased with onr place and people, pereufter the Montgomery^ and Hunts- fille wili cull, alternately, at this point, thus giving us weekly communication with New York. Walker and Hackett, of this city, seem to be busy over in Darien building Churches, Stores, etc. They ire good workmen. The temperance movement in upper Georgia is gaining ground. Rome has banished bar rooms by a vote of 118 to 85. Other places ure taking steps in the same direction. The Confederate graves at Arling ton will be decorated the 4th of June. Federal and Confederate soldiers are nvited to attend. — (Register.) Rev. A. B. Curry is now preachim; for the Presbyterians in Dapien, and will fill the pulpit of the new edifice as soon as completed. The Hinesville Gazette speaks of No. 8, A. & G. R. R., as “the Egypt of this p rt of the world ’ whither all, who are in the condition of Jacob, cun send their sons for corn. We am pained to learn that old Liberty still clings to that bad lmbit of buying coin. Farmers should raise all the eoru they need. Macon iipw boasts of a third town clock, in striking order—the one in the “South Macon Grammar school” steeple. The dock, it seems, has been in its present place for some time past but could uiot be wound up, there br ing no flight of steps reaching to it.
