The natural mind seems averse to Scripture. State Agrcultural Society. Iu our lust issue we noted the fact that the Georgia Agricultural Society would meet in this city in February. Au invitation was extended to them during the mayoralty of Dr. J. J. Harris, but for some reason they could not accept. A large number of them have ever since that time cherished a hope of meeting here at an early day. An invitation therefore having been extended to them at their meeting in Dalton, recently, by our City Fathers through Mr. J. M. Cooper, au enthu* siastio acceptance was the result. There was scarcely a dissenting voice. We see much good po result from this matter. It will be remembered that this Society represents the very bone mid sinew of our beloved State. They ore indeed the representative =9= 999 men of the several counties from which they hail—no little pony-horse far mers with only two and a half acres of Reared land and a small pole house in the middle, with bare-foot wife aud half clod children—but meu of means, of education, of intelligence, who are ever foremost in the great-enterprises of the day. This is enterprise, certain, but we are not quite ready to try it. The Key of the Qulf (Key West, Fin.) tells of-a grand picnic given by the lovers of temperance. It says the young folks spent the day in danejng and the old folks in singing an.d pray ing. Wonder if some of the old folks didn’t slip ont occasionally to see if the young ones were behaving them selves. Bain! Rain! Rain! is now the cry from all sections of tho country.
