Hunt him up. —Dobbin’s Electric Soap is pro nounced the very best. You will find it for sale at Cook Bros. & Co. ’s. —Glynn Superior Court adjourned Monday to meet on the second Mon day of January next. The Docket lacks considerable of being cleared, al though business has been pushed for. ward with dispatch. —Real estate changed hinds some during the last ten days. Among the sales made, we learn, the residence of Dr. J. J. Harris, near the Methodist Church, has been purchased by Dr. Daber, a gentleman from Boston. —The Pastor of the M. E. Church will deliver a discourse on the ap proaching Sabbath upon the great and important Bible truth of the Res urrection of the Dead. At night he will deliver a discourse for the special benefit of metaphysical and abstract reasoners. —Passengers by the M. & B. R. R. will do well to heed the company’s notice, and procure tickets before ta king cars, and thus prevent addition al cast. Fare to Macon 88.00, if you buy a tiedet, if not, ’tis 810.00. * —Improvements continue on the Bay. —The Amateur Club played last Thursdny and Friday nights. We were present the latter night, and must say that the ports were well sustained. A few’ words used by some of the actors might have been changed for milder ones, we thought, without any mate rial detriment. The stage will never be elevated to its proper standard until all such words be expunged from its plays. We need not add that we en joyed the entertainment hugely. —Do yon want to see of the nicest parlor stoves in towa? Then call at Messrs. L. D. Hoyt & Co. ’s, and ask to see the one shown us a few dayB since. It combines the fireplace and stove in one, and will bum either coal or wood. One very marked feature we noted, was the arrangement for cleaning out the ashes, etc., without soiling the carpet. These gentlemen are prepared to furnish anything wanted in the stove line. —Our people were alarmed last Sunday night about 3 o’clock by the cry of fire, in the neighborhood of Dr. Anderson’s mill at the upper end of Newcastle street. The fire engine was soon on the spot, but too late to do more than prevent the fire from reaching other building in the locali ty. Col. Towns’ stave machine was in the same building, and was also de stroyed. CoL T. contemplated mov ing his machine the day following to Satilla Neck. Evidently the party set ting the fire knew of his movements, and uid not mean for him to get off whole. Find him out, Colonel, and tie a limb to his neck. —Complimentary Concert at Fin. ney’s Hall on Friday evening, the 10th inst.. by the Choir of the M. E. Church, assisted by the Amateur Club, to their retiring Pastor, whose services close with the approaching Sabbath. —The ladies of the M. E. Church give another Mite Supper on Tuesday, the 14tli inst., at the Parsonage. The Pastor and family will be glad to meet their friends on that occasion, as it will be their last evening among them- The New Yobk Observer.—This best of family newspapers is f.s fresh and interesting, now in its fifty-third year, as ever before; and, indeed, we think it more so. Its letters alone are worth more than the subscription price of the paper. It repudiates ull offers of premiums, pictures, Ac., and sends to its patrons a splendid family news paper of the largest dimensions, con taining all the desirable news, reli gious and secular, and an endless va riety of reading for young and old, all of which is pure and good. Every family should have it. For specimen copies, address S. I. Prime & Co., New York. A (.noil Gnfulno Where? where? where? we hear you soy. Well, listen. Not less than 75 barrels of turpentine, and 5C0 bar rels of rosin find au outlet through this city, weekly. The time is not fa* distant, we judge, when the same can be said of this section—this pine belt extending over hundreds of square miles westward—as of North Carolina, that its principal productiins are “pitch, tar, turponl uie. an! rosvvi." Now this is the natural outlet for alj this material. Buyers, then, are need, ed here, us at Wilmington nnd other places, to save tim manufacturer the expense and delay attending the pres ent plan. Quick sales and shorter profits would be for preferable to most men. Then see wlmt a rich field is opened up—5ets. per gallon is the dif. ferenee in quotations North and South, or 82.10 on the barrel. Freight, insurance, etc., will take up, say 81-10 —leaving $1.00 clear profit to the Brunswick buyer. A corresponding profit can also be realized on rosin. Capitalists are doing this in Savunuuh and elsewhere, why not doit here? The Oeld is open .who will sccupy? New Schedule.—On Monday last the new line to Florida through this place, by rail and boat, was opened. The M. & B. passenger train now ar rives at 1.45 p. M., and departs at 3.45 p. M.—making close connections from Atlanta down. The B. <fc A. trains have made a slight change, too, in their movements. They continue the same schedule going westward, hut return ing, leave Albany an hour'sonner, nnd arrive here an hour sooner—this to occommodate itself to the movements of the Gulf taains. The steamer Oly phant leaves here for Fernandina shortly after arrival of M. & B. trains each day—making close connections with the Florida line to Jacksonville, and returning next morning. —“Professors of religion, if you would practice what you preach, don’t take such an interest in vulgar and ob scene court scenes.” So say non professors. Tid e the hint. \ —Monday morning, 3 o’clock, Col. Town’s stave works were burned. By 3 p. m. he was building another. In the language of the earlier poets we ure forced to exclaim, “BULLY!” Public School for Whites.—The above school will close for the year a few days before Christmas. The teach ers would be pleased to see not only the Trustees but parents, also, at the school room any time during school hours before the term closes. This, we hold, is the true test of teacher and scholar. Set examinations fail to do either justice, whereas the plan pro posed above will readily show up both parties in their true light. Parents are entirely too careless in this mat ter. A little interest manifested in this way would do much to encourage all parties, aud possibly might be of benefit to parents themselves, in the government of their children at home. In the every day roe Line of work and business, parties having work done generally manifest some interest in it, and are often to be seen examining the pntting-together of every job. But not so with parents in this great work shop—the school room. The master is left to plan and execute without even an inquiry, oftentimes, as to bow the great work advances. Parents, is this right? Do you wonder why your chil dren make slow progress? The reme dy may he at your own door. New Advertisements.
