We hope arrangements will soon be made to give our city that which she needB, and ought to have,—direct steamship communication with New York, inde pendent of every other place. If the present line can’t furnish it, we hope Messrs. Littlefield & Tison will give some other line a chance at it. There is no use in taking seventeen bites at the cherry. If there is not business enough for a line, then abandon it al. together. If there is, then let’s have it Come, gentlemen, bestir your selves. Shelling Streets.—“Business be fore pleasure” we say, and to that end recommend that Monk and Gloucester streets be shelled from Newcastle st. to the Bay, also Bay streeefrom Nelson’s corner to Dure's, instead of fillieg up the gap in Newcastle street, as recom mended by some. The former would udvance the business interests of our city, in view of the new depot and wharf arrangements, whereas the lat ter would only benefit pleasure seek. OX'S. Tobacco Culture. —We noticed a few days since, whilst Btrolling through Col. DeBruhl’s truck garden, severs stocks of tobacco growing luxuriantly! We hear of other parties in this vicin* ity experimenting in the same way*' Several of out ueuuamiuuves ill douui. western Georgia are cultivating this plant very successfully, and by the genuine Cuban seed, produce an article of peculiarly excellent flavor. We would recommend that others in this section give this matter a fair trial and thus develop another of the thou sand undeveloped resources of this highly favored section. We learn that the department of ag riculture at Washington will furnish genuine Cuban seed to any who may wish them. Send on and get a sup ply. J. M.
