Cash System.
Would it not be a good idea for our
merchants, as a whole, to adopt the
cash system and credit no one? The
step would, no doubt, be somewhat in
convenient at the start,—-causing some j
close financiering; im the pal t of our j
people to get through the first uiuutu; j
but that being through, we judge the
way would be clear, it requires no
great effort of mind to see, at once,
what results would accrue therefrom.
It matters not how close a credit bnsi*
ness a merchant may be doing, he is
sure to make some mistakes, and in a
short while he finds one, two. or three
thousand dollars on his books that he
can’t collect, somehow. Now the ques
tion nrises, who pays for this? Why,
you, reader, who pay your bills, if
the cash system was adopted, the ex
tra loss on your part might be avoid
ed; for merchants could then make
their calculations on a surer basiH, and
be satisfied with much smaller profits.
Instead, for instance, of putting on
say 25 percent., they would be satis
fied with 20, aud really make more
money in the long run- and your mon
ey, reader, would make a longer run.
If every one would take the advice
given in recent issue, and "return to
the first, principles of individual hon
esty,” there would be no need for this
move; but as "dead beats” and fair
promises are still on baud, we should
take the next best step aed adopt the
cash system.
Do this, good people, nnd you will
soon see the happy effects.

quite a quantity of it growing on ?ome

Look into this matter, City Fathers
