What Men Need Wives For.
It is not to sweep the house,
make up the beds, dam. the socks
and*cook the meats, chiefly that a
man wants a wife. If this is all ho
needs, hired help can do it cheaper
than a wife. If this is all, when a
man calls to see a lady, send him
into the pantry,’to taste-the bread
and cake she has made; send him
to inspect the needle-work and bed-
making, or put a broom in her
hanW and send him to sco her use
it. Such things me important, and
the wise young man will quickly
look after them; but what the true
man wants with a wife is her com
panionship, sympathy and love.—
The wit}- of life , has many dreary-
places in it, and man needs a com
panion to go -wjth him. A man is
sometimes overtaken by misfor
tune'; lie meets with failure and de
feat; trials, temptations, beset
him, and lie needs one to stand by
ahd- sympathize. Ho has some
hard battles to fight with poverty,
enemies and witffsinjandhe needs
a woman that, when he puts his
arms around her, he feels that ho
has something to tight for; she will
help him to fight; that she will put
her lips to his ear and whisper
words of counsel, and Iipr hand to
his" heart and impart inspiration.
All through fife, through storms
and through sunshine, conflict and
victory; through adverse and
through favorable winds,man needs
a woman’s love. The heart yearns
for it. A sister’s and a mother’s
love will hardly supply the need.
Yet many seek fur notliing further
than success in housework. Just
ly enough, half of these get noth-
fhg more; the other half, surprised
beyond measure, have gotten more
than they sought. 'Their wives
surprise them l>y bringing out a
noble idea in marriage, and dis
closing a treasury of courage, sym
pathy and love.
