Travel to Europe this summer
has been an excess of 4,000 first-
class passengers over that of 1879.
The total number carried so far to
Europe by the passenger steam
ship lines, alone, and not including
those who went by the minor
freight lines, has been 19,696. Thus,
at least 20,000 persons have gone
to Europe from this country to
spend the summer. If we assume
that the average ex|>enditure of
theso jiersons will be five hundred
Iollars per capita—a low estimate
—it will be seen that they will
leave ten million dollars abroad du
