Week before last we expressed our
deep regret at the proposed resigna
tion of Col. Henry M. Drane, ns Gen
eral Freight and Passenger Agent of
the M. k B. Road. We hoped to
learn soon of his employment in some
lucrative position iu the lino of his
profession as an experienced railroad
man, and are glad to know that lie has
found congenial employment in charge
of the construction of the Waycross
& Jacksonville Railroad, ami will prob
ably take charge of its management
when completed, upon satisfactory
compensation for his services. While
ruilronding is his profession,and while
he, of course, was. in duty to himself
| and family, bound to find a position
in that line, whether a rival to aud an
tagonistic to our interests or not, we
are sorry that the purchase

Quite a number of gentlemen met
on last Monday night in Dunn’s bnild
ing, corner Newcastle and Gloucester
streets, for the purpose of organizing
n Colquitt Club in Glynn county, and
to aid iu securing a triumph for true
Democracy.
The meeting was organiard by Mr.
T. G, Htucy being collod to preside as
temporary Chairman, ami W. E. Kay,
Esq., was chosen teufporury Secretary.

A Strange and Beautiful Meteor.
Editor Advertiser: At ten minutes of
teu o’clock, r. m., Thursday, 96th inst,
a meteor appeared in the southwestern
horizon, first consisting of whnt ap
peared to be a ball of fire, moving rap
idly to the northeast, soon breaking
into two balls of about tho same size
(apparently os large as a mail’s head)
aud separated by several feet, with a
trail of luminous matter between the
two, aud a long trail of light in the
rear. It did not seem to move rapid
ly, and was in sight fur at least a min
ute, possibly more. Please call atten
tion of exchanges to this.
