Our .Schools.
Tnere is no subject connected with
the material growth of our fair city
that should so engross our attention as
our schools. A proper system of grad
ed schools, under efficient manage
ment, would give more character and
tone to our place than anything else
we can think of, hence nil divisions in
the school work of onr town must tend
to lower tho standard and impair its
usefulness. The school board, ap
preciating this idea, have made stren
uous efforts to put our schools on a
first-class footing. Let us give them
our hearty support in word und work.
Our Bchooli opened this week in fine
trim, with four teachers and one hun
dred and ten scholars in the white and
three teachers aud sixty-four pupils
the colored school. There will proba
bly bo a much larger attendance in
weeks. Now let every parent do
his duty at home, and wo may expect
happy results.
