“Cotton Rollins: In”
In concluding an nrticle under the
above Bonding, the Appeal says: “We
regret to say that nt present there is
no market here for these products
not a buyer in the city, and we do not
know that there is money enough :
the city to move a bale of cotton,
burrel of stores, or a suck of rice. ”
Wo ask, where is A. V. Wood, the
successor of that thorough paced bus
iness man, Hprunt, who commenced
tho purchase of naval stores hero
Ims continued it for the past three
years, offering the highest market
prices for naval stores ? It was our
impression that lie was still in busi
ness and doing a somewhat lively one.
Wo had merchants here prepared to
buy and who did buy ull upland rice
which offered, aud although we have
not interviewed this year, as the sea
sou has just opened, we are confident
that they are prepared to repeat the
venture this year.
As to cottou, we are assured that if
the M. & B. Rond would make
necessary arrangements for prompt
shipment by steamer to New York,
cottou buyers with ample means would
at once locate here for the handling of
this year’s crop.
Wo are poor, but not so poor ns yet
that we cannot purchase such naval
stores and upland rice ns come to us,
aud if we could Imve the facilities iu
the way of water transportation which
we ought to have, and which the M.
& B. Road (if it is an independent
road) ought to give us, wc would han
dle, yes, and buy thousands of hales of
cottou in this port this season.
