Raise my pillow, husband, dearest —
Faint aud taint«r comes my breath;
And these ahadows. stealing slowly,
Must, I know, lie those of death.
Sit down close beside me. darling,
Let nic clasp your stfong, warm hand.
Yours that over has sustained mo •
To the borders of this laud;
For your God and mine—cur Father,
Thence shall ever lead me,on.
Whore, upon a throne etern ’1,
Hite his loved and only Hon.
I've had visions and been dreaming
O'er the past of Joy anil pain;
Year by year, I've wandered Mekward,
Till 1 was a child again.
Dreamed of girlhood and tho moment
When I stood your wife and bride—
llow my heart thrilled with love s triumph
In that hour of woman’s pride.
Dreamed of thee and all the earth-chord.
Firmly twined about my heart—
Oh ! the bitter burning anguish;
When I first kuow wo must part.
It lias passed—and God hae promised
All thy footsb ps to attend;

lie'll bo with thee to ilic end.
There's no shadow .o'er the portals
Leading to my heavenly home —
Christ hath promised lire immortal.
And tis He that bids me come.
When life’s trials wait around thee
And Its chilling billows swell,
Thou'It thank Heaven that I’m spared them;
Tbon'lt then feel that "all Is well.”
Bring our boya unto my bedside;
My last blessing let them keep
But they are sleeping—do not wak« them—
They'll learn soon enough to weep.
Tell them often of their mother,
Kiss them for me when they wake:
Load thorn gently in life’s pathway,
Love them gently lor my sake.
Clasp my hand still closer, darling.
This, the last night of my life,
For to-morrow, 1 shall never
Answer, when • on call me "wife.”
Fare then well, my noble hu^nmd,

BILL AKP ON - HOME.”
There is a power of comfort clus
tering round n home. W'lien I
nay “home” I mean more than I
can express in language. Some
folks have got a house and lot or a
place where they i'tny ami eat ami
sleep, hut it ain’t everybody has
gotajioiue. 1 wish from my heart
they did have, for, after all, these
tender attachments that dwell un
seen around the domestic hearth
make up the beet and hnppi<*st
part qf life. We don’t know how
dear they arc until we go off and
h avo them for a time and mix up
with the world and get tired, aud
then we begin to feel the*pressure
of the cords that hind us, and the
longer ivo stay away the harder
they pull, drawing us tenderly and
lovingly to the dearest . pot on
earth—the only place where we
can find rest and jn-ace an 1 happi
ness without alloy. I stepped in
on the family last night t aluad of
time. There’s nothing sweeter
than a pleasant surprise. I love
to tip toe up the steps and peep in
at the window while the lamp is
brightly burning and the lire is
glowing cheerfully in tho hearth-
ami the good mother ami her
bairns are bitting around, aud |>er-

and wouldn’t tell it, but dipped off
l»y herself to get an extra supper.
If over I caught her napping I
don’t knouf it. It’s good to go
away from home sometimes, for it
quickens lov<£ and rcnews'our ap-
pueciolion and it’s good to come
hack again and rejoice with the
happy family and see tho little
“changes that time has wrought.

A young lady, jdst from the sem
inary, being asked at the table if
she would have some more cab
bage, replied: “By no means; gas-
tronoinical satiety admonishes mo
that I have arrived at the ultimate
culinary degitation consistent with
the code of Esculapiue.” As she
drew back from the table, it was
concluded that she meant she had
eaten enough.
Wiggins was one day with a
friend when he observed a poor dog
that had been killed, lying in the
gutter. Wiggins paused, gazed at
the dead animal, and at last said:
“Here is another shipwreck.”—
“Shipwreck! where?” “Why,
there’s a bark that's lost forever.”
His companion growled and passed
on. $
