The Berrien County News gives tho fol lowing particulars of the affair: “Soon after he was arrestrd Johns was placed in charge of five men, who leit Dixonia with him. The fourth or fifth day alterwards the prisoners body was found at Indian Ford, on Seventeen Milo creek. His head was literally shot to pieces, and a lurge portion of his bruin was found tight ly grasped in one of his hands. The sight wup a most sickening und hor- rible one. At the inquest two of the men who had churgc of the prisoner when he left Dixonia, testified that they did nt>t know who the firing party were, und u verdict was ren dered that the deceused came to his death ut the hands of an unknown party or parties. A family living near Iudian Ford say thut they dis tinctly heard the report of five guns in the direction of the ford, one duy last week, and supposed it was some hunting party. It is rumored that the guards were overpotvered by u body of armed and unknown men, who seized Johns, and after taking hint to Indian Ford, shot him to death.” The only cure for indolence is work the only cure for selfishness is sac- rufic"; the only cure unbelief is to shake off the ague of doubt by doing your conscience’s bidding; the only cine for timidity is to plunge into gome dreaded duty before the chill comes on.
