A convention of the sheriffs of
the different counties of the State
will be held in Atlanta on tho 4tli
July next, for the purpose of ndop
ting measures leading to more effi
cient and speedy execution of the
criminal laws of the State, and such
other matter as may come before
the convention.
At a temperance meeting in At-
lonta it was determined to call a
state convention of the temperance
men of the state to meet In Atlan
ta on the fourth of July. The fol
lowing executive committee was
chosen: J. D. Cunningham, chair
man ; J. G. Thrower, G. T. Dodd,
Jonathan Norcross, 13. E. L. Tim
mons, R. P. Zimmerman and W. G.
Whidby, secretary. Tho call for
the convention has heeut to all
parts of the stato.
The romains of ‘William Penn
are to he brought over from Eng
laud and ceremoniously buried in
Pennsylvania, probably in tho yard
of old Independence Hall at Phila
dolphin. The present represontn
fives of the Penn family mnko no
objection to the removal, and
State Commissioner has been ap
pointed to conduct the affair with
dignity.
