GRAND JURY PRESENT*
ME NTS.
TEE GEORGE HILL CASE.
The abeve nnaiad crinunul wae
tried near ene year ago. lie had
able lawyers to defend him. They
did not leavo a “atone uuturnad ,”
in giving a lair trial, A jury elec
ted from the beat men iu tbo comi
ty, who heard all the evidence for
and against him. They were men
who had the capacity t# undcrsiaml
the law and evidence in the ease—
they found him* guilty ol murder
nnd he was condemned to hang—
The murderer’s lawyers appealed
to the Supreme Cenrt and lie wua
granted a second trial, thus put
ting uff the day of retribution.
Last wack,the Superior court that
tried and condamnad and sentenc
ed him to hang, convened again.
Again the trial was postponed.
For some reason it may be put
off the next term. We know hut
little of these things. We pretend
no legal knowledge—so we wish
to ask somo qeeBtions for informa
tion:
Why should the ceunty be put
to such expense and the sober,
honestinea in the county pay it
in taxes—Is it ribgt?
Again, leaving tiio mitter of
tar.es out of the question. Is it
right to postpone punishment for
such crimes, when every sensible
man knows that the pssipeueraent
increases < /lines ten fold? Let it
become a cub om to put off the
punishment lot murder from one
to five yours, and no man s lilo
will ba safe one hundred yards
from his door.
When it becomes the custom
for the worst crimes to be com
mitted on a credit of years, then
men will cease to respect the laws
and dispiso morality and religion.
We the Grand Jury, selected,
chosen and sworn for the August
Term of 1883, of the Super,or
court of Coerokeo county, Ga.,
beg leave to submit the tollow-
iug general presentments:

for the sake of truth and justice, te

all we said by the rdeelutions which
