“Where did you get that mutton?'
“Bought it,” I answered. “Well
look here, boys, I will have com-
puny to dinner te-morrow, and
want te buy it,” said the Surgeon.
“Can’t sell,” said I, “I want it for
myself after toting it so far. “But
look here, I will, pay y#ur price,
also for bringing it te camps/' in

with Gen. W. Dinner over Gen.
W. asked the Surgoen how he
liked mntton. At which the Sur
geon told Geu.W.of his Hue dinner
on mutton a tew days be lore.
When be bad finished, Gen. w.teld
the joke on him, and that Surgeon
never went ont again, but somo
one would bleatc like n sheep. Ho
won’t cat muttou any more.

“George Hill’s Attorneys;” we
desire to be distinctly understood
in the out-set, when wo declare
that our first article was written
with ne i u tout ion to provoke a
personal controvercv, with uuy of
the gentlemen who had the honor
to represent one of the most noto
rious criminals, who Was ever ai-
ruKned before the bar of Public
Justice in Cherokee county. A-
gain, understand us—when we an
nounce that the editorial was writ,
ten without any desire to preju
dice any legal light of this Defen
dant, in any subsequent trial—
who is so unfortunate us to be rep
resented by Attorneys, who in the
exercise of their exalted wiidoin
have forced us to the necessity of
again holding up his unenviable
character before the public gu/o.

do—editing the only public organ
in the county and intlio discharge
of those duties, exercising the
rights guaranteed to all by tile
Constitution and laws of our ltn.l

rescued them, sword in hand frein

the “Ma£na Charter,” and which
have been the glory and pride oi

ders to know why it was that, the
ends of Justice were so long per
verted—that the gallows is so long
cheated of its victem, and the
good people— the Inmost laborers
oi the county so long taxed to
maintain and support such a crimi
nal
