Phase give mo some information
rtgaiding the soil, products, climate,
end people of the State of Georgia.
A Hainan or Youk Pai'kii.
Answer.—The Btate which Oglethorpe
didicated to freedom and libeity of con
science is ore ofthc most beantiiul of the
Unittd States. With a mild climate, a
rich soil, numerous products, and aliun
dant haivcsts. it is indeed a “gaudily"
Jano. In Northwestern Georgia tie
climate is adopted to northen fruits, tlui
hsrvst coming five weeks earlier than in
Niw Yoik State. Wheat, Indian corn,
clover, and cotton glow there, though
most of the cotton is raised in the sou
them paits of the .Mate, together witn
rice, sweet potatoes, and sugar-cane.
Northeastern Georgia lias a delightful
climate and iare scenery. The chief
products of the State are Indian <orn
and cotjgo Its mining and manufuct
uring inti reals are piosptrous, as aie
also its Stats and church henevuleneies.
The soil is well irrigated by numerous
streams and nvera; of the latter, the
Savannuh. Altamaha, and Cbaltuhoo
cliee arc the largest. The Savannah is
navigable by steamers as iar us Atlanta,
a distance of 230 miles. While the coast
is lined with swamp lauds, oveigrown
with tlie anwpulmctto, cypress, cedar,
live oak, tnugnolia, gum tree, liquid
amber, sweet bay-tree, umi wild orange
the interior ci untry abounds in the most
dimming and grand reentry. The men
ot Georgia is 58 000 square miles. Its
population numbers 1.542,180, of which
1.581,019 natives, and 10,504 foreigners;
819,000 me white and 126 138 colon ci
Thcic ure but 124 Indians and 1?
Chinese.— Chicay» Inter Ocean.
The Marietta anti North Georgii
read is in good trim now. It bus
one of the bcst'nurrow gauge tracks
in the south and runu smoothly.
The roud is developing one of the
very be6t sections of the State, and
work is being pushed on the upper
end more rapidly than ever.—Ex.

Speaking of the iccL’nt discoveries of
Mica in Georgia the Atlanta Cestitution
says; In the Southwestern part of For
By tli, and that pai t ot Cherokee adjacent
thereto, several mines have been opened
showing well defined veins. Competent
mineralogists have examined the mines
and proueuuced them g »od. The quality
of the mica is first class, as is evinced by
the ready sale of a considerable amount
which lias already been sold. These
unr.es are a continuation of the North
Carolina mines.

of Oscar R. Crockett in Sun ^mono
Texas, last November, lie was well
known to many of our readers and res

many warm and faithful friends who
will hear of his death with profound
sadness, Wo give below au extract
from the Obituary made by the Oxford
County Advertiser of Norway aud Boulh

“Mr. Crockett was a young man of very
active mind, of ready scholarship suit
ability as a writer, and ot a cheerful
temperment; a general favorite both in
his native place and at school, where
lie was familiarly spoken of as “Oscar’’
by the entire school of two hundred
scholars. His naturil vivacity and quic
kness of perception gave promise of
much future usefulness, if his life had
been spared. He was a young man of
therougly moral character, aud though
never having made any outward profess
ion of-religion, yet u schoolmate speaks
of receiving letters from him breathing
»tender throoghtfolneas on the subject.
