RK8ULT OF HR
SIX HOUR WALKING NA I’CII
According to annonucoment the “grand
go-iw-you-plcasc six hour walking match"
came off last Saturday at the old Acad
emy gt-ove notwithstanding the very in
clement weather during the week and
almost all day rains on Saturday. The
rain rendered the track in a very had
condition which Tory greatly impeded
tho walkers and caused them not to
make iw many miles as they wonld had
the week and the day beon a fair oue mid
the track in good ooudition. The mile 8
made was good considering tho many
disadvantages uuder which the walk was
made. Tho disadvnntaggee wore
1st The hard rains during the week '
and tho time of walking.
2nd Tho muddy, slippery and sloppy
condition of the track caused by tlie
rains.
3rd The close anltrv atmosphere.
4th The rolling and rongh and
track.
5tk That neither of th* walkers had
been previously trained for this walk
and as this was the only walk in which
aay had participated.
tlth The truck being so small and
inclining sway from center gave bad
foot hold in running.
For the above and many other reasons
w# do not wonder that they mud* no
more miles, hut under all these unfavor
able circumstance* they very success
fully “mashed Atlanta" and ‘‘smashed’’
four of Macon* host men and In fact the
record mads ia not to be laaghod at*
Had the day been a pretty one, tha track
level, smooth, hard aad dry they wonld
ao doubt have made [01 or 40 mile* with
ease. The positions tha walkers taken
on the ring a* they started out at 10 a. m-
heginiag at tho inside and running to th*
outside; and also the colors worn were a*
