Last Friday another meeting of tho
citisens wa* ht id at the Court House at
which encouraging remark* were made
by Judge Brown and other* favoring tho
building of tho Academy at once. Sev
eral present increased their uubscripUou
26 percent. At present tbere is about
♦1900 snbscribhgd and only #100 to bo
raised by next Monday when another
meeting will be hold aud steps taken to
begin wtu-k at once on tho Academy.
Every one should sdbseribe liberally, and
and if you have already subscribed raise
it 26 or 50 per cent if you feel able, it is
estimated by some that if the Academy
is built our property will be enhanced
at least 10 pur cent in value. We believe
that
therefore it is the duty of every prop
eriy bolder to contribute liberally, wheth
er they have rhildrdn or not. Of coume
every one wlp) have children know it to
be their duty to provide efficient means
for education of thair children in the
right direction. We want to see tbs
work begun and when it is a brighter
future will then drawn beforo u*. The
citizuns should raise #2<iom and will do so
by Monday next, then the Town Coun
cil give an additional #600 with which
to better finish and furnish it. By the
Council voting #600 then the tax will
equally fall upon all and being so small
will lie felt by none. We are in earnest
about building the academy, the town
ia in earnest, we are all iu earnest,
therefore let's begin the glorious worK at
one* and begin the Fall Term of our
schools in tho new two story brick acad-
niy. Come out to the meeting next
Monday evening at 2 o’clock and let*
takesomo further and permanent step*
towards the building. Now is the time
and lets improve every moment, our time
our town and the future prospects of our
childreu demand immediate action.

That s very curious.
The people of Ball Ground met, ia
mas* meeting on the night of the Oth met.
R. J, Boling was requested ta act a*
chairman nnd John N. Himt, Secretaiy.
The object of the mueting was briefly
explained by Jae. H. Kilby which was to
erect a seminery at Ball Ground. After
spnehes aud gcnetul expreesion of
view* by several parties it was agreed
to build immcdiatly, Hubrcription list
wss presented with splendid result*
A committee was then appointed ta lo-
c-te a place and draw a design consisting
of It. J. Holing. P. II. Lyrn, H. I. Smith,
Jhs. II Kilby and John N. Sims. On thu
nignt of 10th committee reported e*
follows; Re solved, lbat we builfiahouaa
28 feet w ide 46 feet long and two etorim
high, with 18 windows and 4 doors, oa
lauds donate d by Capt. P. H. Lyon and
Jfobert Low, on the top of the hill eaet
of Depot. Report heartily received and
the weak has begun. The ground ia
nuw cleand offend the matirial is being
rapidly laid down. That’s very curious
indeed usd qiiiok too. This will make
our town look more curious still for tlw
low country folks say it reminds them of
"a low country ponel all over the lace of
the earth, and about arkle deep." But
there is one consolation in which we
rejoice, we have plenty of room and ar#
not crowded. It’s true we have setth d
apart hut we are one in enterprise and
have many advantages over other new
town*. We have 12 or 16 carpenter#
busy all the time so we are all right in
this line. We also have some ten er
twelve Smiths hut aO black smiths st all
by nut ure and but few by trade. Is n<>#
that curious? The Boling house is >1
pieseat occupied by s Cook, end we sre
loid it will soen have a Pickett but the
Inst and most curious thing we have it*
tame Lyon which is Docile, Kind ami
cleeer.
