We were determined to enjoy what we
could of tlie Fourth and about the ltist
tiling to attract our attention was to go
to the depot and see what enthusiasm
we might catch on bv seeing the excur
sion from Jasper aim along the line of
railroad to Atlanta. Soon the train came
along aud to our astonishment only about
half dozen passengers aboard. Canton
then put on about half dozen more. When
the train left Cant. New man. of Canton
was in one coach and l)r Hawkins, of
Ball Ground, iu another, the heaviest pas
sengers given separate coaches for the
safety of the other passengers, their con
venience and accommodation. We came
hack to tow n and finding nothing else to
do went to work, much against our feel
ings ami patriotic emotions. Soon after
lolling up our sleeves we “got wind"
of afoot race between Canton and Atlan
ta, and on going dow n stairs found that
a challenge hud been made bv Mr. Torn
Bell, of Atlanta, to beat Dr. J. M. Turk
around the trucK walked on a few weeks

satisfaction Dr. Turk mid Tommie both
backed out and wo canto back to the
office feeling sad, very sail, yet wo did’nt

During the month just passed the in •
teiest in the suuclayschools has increased
and many new scholars, church mem
bers have been added to the rolls of.each
school. A sjurit of rivalry seems to
manifest itself in each school; it is
how ever Christian rivalry aud not a rival
ry to pull down one school to build up
the other. Each school tries to get new
Kdioltirs, but not by taking fram the
other. Muy each grow in numbers and
