The Milton Ihmoerjt. we sec front
from its columns, still contends that
Mr, Bell should lie the successor of
Mr. Gober as Solicitor-General of
this circuit, the Cherokee Adeona
to the contrary notwithstanding.
The qualifications of these appli
cants having been thoroughly dis
cussed by our bretheren of the press,
the whole question is about to be
embodied in tlieso words: “Are tlia
interest of society safer in the hands
of a man of experiences than one
whose knowledge of the duties of an
office are deficient in consequence of
of his lien-experience':*” ’I his ques
tion, we think if answered thought
fully and eonseieneiously by the
voice of the General Assembly of
Georgia would re-elect Mr Goiter.
But suppose Mr. Hell is equally
as well calculated to perform the
duties which have been so faithfully
attended to by Mr Gober during his
term of office, dees this place the
claims of M.i. B. above those of Mr.
G? Not at all. Would you turn off
a servant who had served you faith
fully and employ another who had
never acted in that sphere? No,
sound reasoning would prevent you
from taking such step.
Is it right that the Slate should
pay for the training of a new officer
every few years, whose services a
majority of the people do not want?
Surelv ever one is ready to answer
no.
If Mr Gober stills contends for
the position (and it’s a fact that he
will) it is most certain that the
Y*7 a 11 VO chances for Mr Hell will be <vr»/slim
>> ill ‘’H ’ r |>ut suppose Mr Hell is as popular
j as the Demoerot would have us
j think, then it might produce disoi-

j man, less identified with our people
and more incompetent than either
of the present aspirants.
We liopcall sordid feelings (if any
