Mi Stopped IIis Paper.
Of re upon a time a man got mart
at the edit* r anrt stopped hi* paper.
The next week he sold his corn at 4
C ents below the market price. Then
his property waesolrt for taxes, be
cause he didn’t read the Sheri i’a
sales, lie was arrested and lined $*
for going hunting on Sunday, and he
paid *oU»i for a lot of forgod notes
that had been advertised two week#
and the public cautioned not to ne
gotiate them. He then paid a big
Irishman, with a foot like a forge
ha tuner, to kick him all the way to
the newspaper eflioe, where he paid
four years’ subserption in advance
and made the editor sign an agree-
ANOTHER YEAR.
With this issue the Advance be- j tneut to knobk him^ down and rob
gins its sixth year. Six years !
How long to the young, but. oh-
how fieetiug to the old.
' During the past twelve months
nod ev«r since our connection with
the Advance we have spent what
little We had of our time, talents
and money endeavoring to make
it a creditable news paper and put
eur county forward as one of the
hfst in North Georgia. Whether
or not wo have succeeded or you
have been pleased, benefitted or
entertained is lor you to say The
Advance, we believe, is a better
paper to-day tlian it was five years
•go,ortbe years intervening. We
. simple sav this mueli without boast
ing of what we have done, or
speuking disparagingly^ of what
others have’nt done. There is no
doubt but that we have said many
things we ought not to have said,
and left unsaid many tilings wo
should not have said ; done many
things we slionld not have done,
and not done many things we
ought have done. Wc have doubt
lass made some mad, and others
glad ; some happy and others sad.
Deserved the cusses of some, ami
the praises #f others, (but it either
we have'iit received it yet). Oi
course wa have done all of these
—we expected it—and by so doing
we have succeeded in the news
paper business, for wo have long
since learned that it impossible to
please all. The only excuse we
cau render or pardon wo can beg
of you is that under the circum
stances wc have done the best we
could, and if wo have offended
\ou, although uot intentional of
course, then on bended kneo wo beg
your lorgivenuess. ’Tie all We cau
ilo—surely you will be geuerous
and warm-hearted enough to grain
it; if uot, good bye.
We set out upon the New Year
fully determined to make the A»-
vance a much more interesting and
bettor county paper ia every re
spect than it ever baa beeu there
is we are aware ample room for im
provement, but wo might workday
and uight, with Sunday thrown in,
without ceasiug yot make an utter
failure without your assistance, co
operation, encouragement and pat-
lounge, it is a very easy matter
for you to help us and tkad help
bring your couu 17 to the front and
make your county paper a gram,
success both in a financial aud lit
, erary and news point of view.
The Advance tins no doubt dotu
the county a gieat deal of good.
What have you ever done tor the
. county or the Advance? We want
you to speak u kind word for tit*
Advance, send us the Bame of new
’ subscribers, items of interest and
local events, and give us such help
and encouragement as will make
. you better for the doing aud we to
praise you, aud to teach our child
ren la love you. Now won’t you
do it? Whatever you umy do oi
say for us will be greatly appre
ciated-aud its good influence will
be seeu ami felt by others, aud at
the same time you be conscious ol
having perlormed a pleasant duty.
We Uel confident that if the peo
ple oi this and udjoinmg counties
will show a willing mind, and help
tv commendable enterprise, we eau
furnish a paper of whicu they mu\
justly be proud. It shall ever he
our pleasure to labor lor tho ad
vancement oi Cherekec, aud Neith
Georgia. In return for our laboi
we want to put the Advance iute
the bands of every family in thi
county. Help ua to do it, if you
please.
There are a great many that are
indebted to us now, some more vml
some less amounts, who would con
lei a great favor by comiug in and
paying their accounts and thus eu
. able us to execute our plans lor the
future. It takes money to run u
paper, and • considerable amount
of it; Become on aud help us out
of a tight, and we will do our very
best to give you a good paper.
With a New Years greeting aud
•our beBt wishes for the lmure hap

Gen. John B. Gordon has been
suggested as a suitable person to bo
appointed to a cabinet position by
Preaident-eloct Cleveland. His ap
pointment would prove satisfactori
ly and he wonld be of great help
to the Democratic administration.
Out of 4b true bills found by thd
grand jury of Cobb Superior oourt
sheriff Coryell arrested 41 of the
parties indicted. Two of tho other
five are out of the county, and three
out of the State.
The indications point very strong
ly to a favorable administration for
President Cleveland during tho
next four years.
More than ninety counties in tho
State totally or partially prohibit
the sale of whiskey, and the glorious
work goes on. _
