The Base Ball lid was pried
off in Canton last Saturday,
when Canton defeated Ac-
worth by a score of 11 to 6.
One of the largest crowds
ever attending an opening
game was on hand. While the
score indicates a one-sided af
fair, the game was very inter
esting from a spectator stand
point, as both sides were suing
the “old hickory” freely.
The Canton team showed
up strong as a beginner. The
infield with Harris on first,
Sandow at second, Roberts on
short, and Little at third cons
tituted one of the fastest in the
state. Cole and Howell were
the batteries for Canton. It
being “Hump’s” first time on
on the mound, he did well. The

in length, which was handed to. th^ German plenipotentaries
at a memorable assemblage here,\t|ended by the delegates of
the twenty-seven nations which 4re';i>arties to the peace pact.
This notable document, on whitfc the leading statesmen of
the various nations, together with a Vijvarm of experts from the
principal countries involved, havefteen working since the con
vening of the peace conference on January 18, is introduced
by an extensive preamble, embodying the assertion of authority
upon which the treaty is based. *
The treaty, it is noted, has to do with 6efmany alone, ex
cept in so far as it is required that she accept agreements made
by the allies with the other central powers.
The terms of the treaty spell the end of Germany as a mili
tary power. She is deprived pf virtually all her fleet, her army
is cut down to nominal dimer^io^ailid she is sharply restricted

J. C. Moore was arrested in
Columbus, Ga., last week,
charged with the robbery of
the Ball Ground Bank, it is
claimed that Moore was try-
ling to dispose of some of the
i bonds that were stolen from
ithe bank.
| The Ball Ground Bank was
robbed several months ago of
several hundred dollars in
money and several thousand
dollars worth of Liberty
Bonds. At the time of the rob
bery there was no clue as to
the guilty party, but detectiv
es have been quietly at work
on the case ever since and last
week arrested Moore.
Moore claims to have no
knowledge of the affair and
stoutly denies his guilt. From
all indications it appears as if
Moore is a notorious character
and has been implicated in
several widely-known cases.
He has been identified as Jno.
Nolan, who held up the N-. C.
& St. L. passenger train in
Cobb.cqpnty several years^agp

ed to 20 years in the peniten

he escaped this sentence. A
representative of The Advance
indeavored to get a statement
from Moore, alias, Nolan this
week, but he refused to make
any statement other than that
he was innocent of the crime.
Moore is about 40-years of
age, well dressed and claims
Columbus, Ga., as his home.
Sheriff Spears is keeping a
close watch on him as it is fear
ed that he will undertake to
escape from the jail.
