FREE TRADE AND NO MONOPOLY.
Opposition to High Freight- Tariffs'!
Office of the Fashion Link, i
Augusta, April 15, 1854. i j
rgIHK sub scriber would respectfully call tho |
ifi- aattentiun of the Merchants throughout Geor
gia, Tennessee, Alabama, and South Carolina, to :
the Savannah River, as a safe, expeditious and j
cheap route for the transportation of their Mot-chan
disc.
By comparing the freight tariffs of ibis line with I
those of the South t aroliua, and Central, and
Waynesboro’ Railroads, it will show a result in fa
vor of this route of from 30 to 50 per cent., gener- j
, ally, and in some instances a greater per coinage.
By this route a merchant receives each shipment |
of his Goods together; they are not retailed by j
him as they generally are by Railroads connecting
with the seaboard, with n list of charges attached !
to each package.
In addition to the present force of this line, an
other new Boat, of light draught of water, will he
added during the coming summer. These boats
will leave Savannah after the discharge of the New !
York and Philadelphia Steamships, twice or three
times a week, delivering those Goods at this point 1
iu FIVE DAYS.
From the present low tariff of this line a deduc
tion of 12' j per cent, will be allowed on all bills j
from this date. Gire tho river more business, and
1 a cheaper freight yet awaits you.
All goods from tho seaboard should be directed
to M. A. COHEN, Savannah, j
and produce from the interior to
JNO. A. MOORE,, Augusta.
To the manufacturing portion of Georgia, as well ,
a* to the Cotton Merchants, and dealers generally,
on the line of Railroads through Georgia and Ten- !
' uesiee, who ship to Savannah and Northern mar
kets, this route offers verv favorable inducements. ,
To facilitate shipments, as well as to prevent er- j
rors, bills of lading should be forwarded to M. A.
I COHEN, at Savannah, for all goods from seaboard.
JNO. A. MOORE.
1 In case of low river, all goods consigned to this
line, will b# forwarded by Central, and connecting
Railroads. aprillo j

REED'S PATENT CHRONOMETER
ENGINE.
ramns is an improved Steam Engine, for which
S Letters Patent were granted to John A. Reed,
of Now York, January V, 1855. The nature of this
Improvement consists of the increase of power
about Jo per cent, and reducing the weight of the
Engine one-half. The saving of fuel is effected by
letting the steam in on both sides of the cylinder;
doubling the size of the port, and balancing the
pressure, removing the friction and weight of the
slide valves, eccentrics, cross heads, connecting
rods, Ac. The exceeding simplicity of this Engine,
renders it much more durable and easily managed
than any other, and when placed upon’ the boiler
with wheels it is portable though effective.
These Engines received the First Prize Modal at
the great Exhibition in Paris. There are about
Seventy-five of them nojv in operation, all giving
great satisfaction.

ROGERS’ LIVERWORT AND TAR,
FOR the complete cure of Coughs, Colds, In- ,
fiuenza, Asthma, Bronchitis, Spitting of Blood, I
■ and all other J/ung Complaints tending to Con- j
! sumption.
| This preparation is getting into use all over the j
country. The numerous letters we receive from i
| our various agents, informing us of cures effected !
; in their immediate neighborhoods, warrant us in j
] saying it is one of the best, if not the very best ,
i Cough Medicine now before the public. It almost !
j invariably relieves and not unfrequently cures the !
very worst case. When all other Cough prepara- ;
■ tions have failed, this has relieved the patient, as j
Druggists, dealers in Medicines, and Physicians ,
can testify. Ask the Agent in vour nearest town,
I what has been his experience of the effects of this ;
! medicine. If he has been selling it for any length
j of time, he will tell you it is the best Medicine ex- ;
taut.
Below we give a few extracts from letters we
: have received lately regarding the virtues of this
1 Medicine:
Dr. S. S. Oslin, of Knoxville, Ga., says: 1 have j
, been using your Liverwort and Tar very extensive- j
; ly in mv practice for three years past, and it is with j
, pleasure 1 state my belief In its superiority over all :
other articles with which L am acquainted, for ;
j which it is recommended.
Messrs. Fitzgerald & Benners, writing from
Waynesville, N. C., say: “The Liverwort and Tar ,
i is becoming daily more popular in this country,
and we think justly so. All who have tried it i
speak in commendable terms of it, and say it is
very beneficial in alleviating the complaints for !
which it is recommended.”
Our Agent in Pickens District, H. C., Mr. S. R.
McFall, assures us “ that he uses it with great ben
efit in his own family, and recommends it to his
neighbors.” lie gives an instance of a Negro wo
j man, in his vicinity, who had been suffering with
; disease of the Lungs for years, attended with se
| vere cough, who was relieved by the Liverwort A
Tar.
I Such are the good reports we hear of this Medi
i cine from all parts of the South. F’or a report of
j the surprising cures it has performed in the West
j ern, and Northern and Eastern States, we would iu
! vite the suffering patient to read the pamphlet
which accompanies each bottle. To all, we say,
have hope, have hope!
Try the Medicine! Be warned in season! And
neglect not that cough which is daily weakening
your constitution, irritating vour throat and lungs,
and inviting on that dread disease. Consumption,
when so soothing and healing a remedy can be ob
tained as Dr. Rogers’ Syrup of Liverwort and Tar.
Beware of Counterfeits and base imitations!
The genuine is signed Axntucw Rogues on tlio

The misery that I have suffered for the last two
j years, I cannot describe to you. I was in such ag

In October last, my son brought me one of your
I bottle wrappers; I read it, and found record of some
| wonderful cures performed by vour “Extract of
Y ellow Dock and Sarsaparilla;" 1 sent and got two
| bottles of it, and commenced taking it. In two
weeks, to my great astonishment, my sores all be
came easy, and I could sleep al! night, a thing I had

EVIDENCE OF MERIT.
“Lhwisburg, Union Co., Pa., May 2, 1855.
Mr. J. A. Rhodes— Dear Sir: The box of medi
cine vou sent me was duly received on the 11th of
Aprif. I have sold about'one half of it, and so far
the people who have used it are satisfied that it has
cured them. It bus certainly stopped the Ague in
every one who has used it,’ and six of the cases
were of long standing. M v sister, who has had it
for five or six years back, and could never get it
stopped, except bv Quinine, and that only as long

CAUTTOX TO AGUE SUFFERERS.
Take no more Arsenic, Tonics, Mercurv, Quinine,
Febrifuges, Strychnine, or Anti-Periodics of anv

of false medical principles, or of mercenary quacks
The only remedy in existence, that is both sure and
harmless, is
