By comparing the freight tariffs of this line with those of the South Carolina, and Central, and Waynesboro’ Railroads, it will show a result m fa vor of this route of from 3o to 5 > percent., gener j ally, and in some instances a greater per centage. By this route a merchant receives t-acli shipment of his (foods together; they are not retailed b\ him as they generally arc by Railroads connecting : with tlie seaboard, with a list of charges attached i to each package. These boats ; will leave Savannah after the discharge of the New York and Philadelphia Steamships, twice or three times a week, delivering those Goods at this point in FIVE DAYS. From the present low lari ft’of this line a deduc i lion of 12)4 per cent, will be allowed on all bills from this date. Give the river more business, and I a cheaper freight yet awaits you. REED S PATENT CHRONOMETER ENGINE. rwiifis is an improved Steam Engine, for which E Letters Patent were granted to John A. Reed, of New Y ork, January 0, 1855. The nature of this Improvement, consists of the increase of power about 20 per cent, and reducing the weight of the Engine one-half. The saving of fuel is effected bv letting the steam in on both sides of the cylinder ; doubling the size of the port, .and balancing the pressure, removing the friction and weight of the slide valves, eccentrics, cross beads, connecting rods, <fec. The exceeding simplicity of this Engine, renders it much more durable and easily managed than any other, and when placed upon the boiler with wheels it is portable though effective.
