FREE TRADE AND NO MONOPOLY.
Opposition to High Freight Tariffs!
Office of thf. Fashion Link, |
Avgusta, April 15, 1854. f
fSNIIE subscriber would respectfully call the
M. sattention of the Merchants throughout Geor
gia, Tennessee, Alabama, and South Carolina, to
the Savannah River, as a safe, expeditious and
cheap route for the transportation of their Merchan
dise.
By comparing the freight tariffs of this line with
those of the South Carolina, mid Central, and
Waynesboro’ Railroads, it will show a result in fa
vor of this route of from 30 to 50 per cent., gener
ally, and in some instances a greater per cent.age.
By this route a merchant receives each shipment
of his Goods together; they are not retailed by
him as they generally are by Railroads connecting
with the seaboard, with a list of charges attached
to each package.
In addition to the present force of this line, an
other new Boat, of light draught of water, will he
added during the coming summer. These boats
will leave Savannah after the discharge of the New
York and Philadelphia Steamships, twice or three
times a week, delivering those Goods at this point
in FIVE DAYS.
From the present low tarift’of this line a deduc
tion of 12L> per cent, will be allowed on all hills
from this date. Give the river more business, and
a cheaper freight yet awaits you.
All goods from the seaboard should be directed
to M. A. COHEN, Savannah,
and produce from the interior to
JNO. A. MOORE,, Augusta.
To the manufacturing portion of Georgia, as well
as to the Cotton Merchants, and dealers generally,
on the line of Railroads through Georgia and Teu
nessee, who ship to Savannah and Northern mar
kets, this route offers very favorable inducements.
To facilitate shipments, as well as to prevent er
rors, bills of lading should be forwarded to M. A.
COHEN, at Savannah, forall goods from seaboard.
JNO. A. MOORE.
In case of low river, all goods consigned to this
line, will be forwarded by Central, and connecting
Railroads. aprilio

REED'S PATENT CHRONOMETER
ENGINE.
rjyms is an improved Steam Engine, fur which
■ Letters Patent were granted to John A. Reed,
of New York, January 9, 1855. The nature of this
Improvement consists of the increase of power
about 20 per cent, and reducing the weight of the
Engine one-half. The saving of fuel is effected by
lotting the steam in on both sides of the cylinder;
doubling the size of the port, and balancing the
pressure, removing the friction and weight of the
slide valves, eccentrics, cross heads, connecting
rods, Ac. The exceeding simplicity of this Engine,
renders it much more durable and easily managed
than any other, and when placed upon the boiler
with wheels it is portable though effective.
These Engines received the First Prize Medal at
the great Exhibition in Paris. There are about
Seventy-five of them now in operation, all giving
great satisfaction.

Arnica liniment, for burns,
&c.—A supply of this very desirable article,
(.which should be kept in every family) ready for
use, may be obtained at the City Drug Store, where
ii is for sale at only 50 cents per bottle. Having
been burnt severely myself with Burning Fluid, 1
tried every remedy proposed by my friends, but
found, from experience, they were no go. On using
the Arnica Liniment, as per directions, it afforded
immediate relief. 1 therefore can speak from ex
perience. This invaluable oleaginous Linament
acts like magic, in removing the most acute pain,
by Burns, and seldom requires more than two or
three applications to relieve and cure those of a
severe character, either from Burning Fluid, Cam
phine, Powder or Fire. This article is prepared
only by myself, and having tried its efficiency, be
lieve it is the best remedy that, can be used, when
ever the case requires, for sale bv

This preparation is getting into use all over the
country. The numerous letters we receive from
our various agents, informing us of cures effected
in their immediate neighborhoods, warrant us in

Cough Medicine now before the public. It almost
invariably relioves and not [infrequently cures the
very worst case. When all other Gough prepara

Druggists, dealers in Medicines, and Physicians
can testify. Ask the Agent in your nearest town,
wlmt has been his experience of the effects of this
medicine. If he has been selling it for any length
of time, he will tell you it is ilie best Medicine ex

Below we give a few extracts from letters we
have received lately regarding the virtues of this
Medicine:
Dr. S. Si. Osliu, of Knoxville, Ga., says: I hare
been using your Liverwort and Tar very extensive
ly in my practice for throe years pas', and it is with
pleasure 1 state my belief in its superiority over all
other articles with which l am acquainted, for
which it is recommended.
Messrs. Fitzgerald & Benners, writing from
Waynesville, N. C., sav: “The Liverwort and Tar
is becoming daily more popular in this country,
and we think justly so. All who have tried it
speak in commendable terms of it, and say it is
very beneficial in alleviaiing the complaints for
which it is recommended.”
Our Agent in Pickens District, S. C., Mr. Si. R.
Mi-Fail, assures us “ that lie uses it with great ben
efit in his own family, and recommends it to bis
neighbors.” He gives an instance of a Negro wo
man, in his vicinity, who had been suffering with
disease of the Lungs for years, attended with se
vere cough, who was relieved by the Liverwort k
Tar.
Such are the good reports we hoar of this Medi
cine from all parts of the South. For a report of
the surprising cures it has performed in the West
ern, mid Northern and Eastern Status, wo would in
vite the suffering patient to read the pamphlet
which accompanies each bottle. To all, wo say,
have hope, have hope!

performed one of the most wonderful cures on ac
t-hat has ever been effected on man.
1 have been afflicted for forty vears'with er:
iions on my legs and feet; in ls4s they got sobs,
that I had to go on crutches, and in 1849 1 had
leg amputated above the knee. In about ca
months after my other leg broke out in large eat:,
and running sores, from my knee to my foot, at:
discharged a great deal of offensive matter. '■
groin also broke out in large biles, which discharj
cd much offensive matter, and at the same timeii
left hand broke out in large running sores near,l
to my elbow.
The misery that I have suffered for the last:?I
years, I cannot describe to you. I was in suclnp;
out that 1 never rested day or night.
tn October last, niv son brought trie one oi' y -
bottle wrappers; I read it, and found record of sob|
wonderful cures performed by vour “Extract ij
Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla;” 1 sent and got c f
bottles of it, and commenced taking it. In tdj
weeks, to my great astonishment, my sores all A
came easy, anil 1 could sleep all night, a thing lu,
not done for two years. When I had taken six hot
ties, my sores had nearly all healed. My sore p>,
well as if by enchantment. 1 have now used if.;
eight bottles of your “ Extract of Yellow Dock,:
Sarsaparilla,” and I now consider mysel well.
I entreat all of the afflicted to try this medicine
for I believe it will cure any known disease in tic
world. Lay aside all prejudice and just trv it, a;::
proclaim its great worth to suffering mankind, an,
entreat them to take it, for it will cure them.
My case is well known in a large portion of Sunk
Carolina, Georgia and Alabama, and if any shcif
doubt the above cure, 1 invite them to call .in Bl
and T will show them the scars. 1 can be found is
