REED S PATENT “CHRONOMETER”
ENGINE.
7|pHIS is an improved Steam Engine, for which.
S Letters Patent were granted to John A. Reed,
of New York, January y, 15.", 5. The nature of this
Improvement consists of the increase of powei
about 2“ percent, and reducing the weight of the

letting the steam in on both sides of the cylinder;
doubling the size of the port, and balancing the
pressure, removing the friction and weight of the
slide valves, eccentrics, cross hen Is, connecting
rods, Ac. The exceeding simplicity of this Engine,
rentiers it much more durable and easily manage'’
than any other, and when placed upon the boiler
with wheels t; is portable though effective.
These Engines received the First Prize Medal at
the great Exhibition in Paris. There are about
Seventy-five of them now itt operation, all giving
great satisfaction.

Opposition to High Freight- Tariffs!
Office of the Fashion Line, 1
Augusta, April 15, 1854. \
sub* criber would respectfully call the
a. aatten.ion of the Merehan s throughout Geov
u», Tennessee, Alabama, and South Carolina, to
te Savannah River, as a safe, expeditious and
caeap route for the transportation of tlietr Merchan-
By comparing the freight tariffs of this line with
these of the South Carolina, and Ceniral, and
Waynesboro’ Railroads, it will show a result in ta
vor'of ttiis route of from o ' to 50 percent., gener
ally, and in some instances a greater per cent age.
By this route a merchant receives each shipment
of his Goods together; they are not retailed by
him as they generally are by Railroads connecting
with the seaboard, with a list of charges attached
to each package.
In addition to the present force of this line, an
other new Boat, of light draught of water, will be
added during the coming summer. These boats
will leave Savannah after the discharge of the New
Y rk and Ptuladelphia Steamships, twice or three
times a week, delivering those Goods at this point
in FIVE DAYS.
From the present low tariff of this line a deduc
tion of 12‘fi per cent, will be allowed on all bills
from this date. Give the river more business, aud
a cheaper freight yet awaits you.
All goods from the seaboard should be directed
to M. A. COHEN, Savannah,
and produce from the interior to
JNU. A. MOORE,, Augusta.
To the manufacturing portion of Georgia, as well
as to the Cotton Merchants, and dealers generally,
. n the line of Railroads through Georgia aud Tcii
ttessce, who ship to Savannah and Northern mar
kets, this route offers very favorable inducements.
To facilitate shipments, as well as to prevent er
rors. bills of lading should be forwarded to M. A.
COHEN, at Savannah, for all goods from seaboard.
JNO. A. MOORE
Incase of low river, all goods consigned to this

ROGERS’ LIVERWORT AND TAR,
the complete cure of Coughs, Colds, In
liuenza, Asthma, Bronchitis, Spitting of Blood,
and all other Lung Complaints tending to Con
sumption.
This preparation is getting into use all over the 1
| country. The numerous letters we receive from
our various agents, informing us of cures effected
in their immediate neighborhoods, warrant us in
: saying it is one of the best, if not the very best
Cough Medicine how before the public, it almost
invariably relieves and not unirequently cures the
very worst ease. When all other Cough prepara- ;
tions hare failed, this has relieved the patient, as i
Druggists, dealers in Medicines, and Physicians j
can testify. Ask the Agent in your nearest town, ;
what has been his experience of the effects of this !
; medicine. If he lets been selling it for am* length j
, of time, he will tell you it is the best. Medicine ex- I
iullt.
Below we give a few extracts from letters we j
have received lately regarding the virtues of this j
Medicine;
Dr. S. S. Oslin, of Knoxville, Ga., says; 1 have :
been using your Liverwort and Tar very extensive
ly- in my practice for three years past, and it is with [
pleasure J suite my belief in its superiority over all ;
other articles with which 1 ant acquainted, for i
which it is recommended.
Messrs. Fitzgerald A Benners, writing from I
Wayneiville, N. C„ say: “The Liverwort and Tat
is becoming daily more popular in this country, j
and we think justly so. Ail who have tried it j
speak in commendable terms of it, and say it is j
very beneficial in alleviating the complaints for j
which i: is recommended.”
Our Agent in Pickens District, S. Mr. S. R. j
Me Fall, assures us “ that he' uses it with groat ben i
etit in his own family, and recommends it to his }
neighbors.’’ He gives an instance of a Negro wo- |
man, in his vicinity, who bad been suffering with !
disease of the Lungs for years, attended with se- ‘
vere cough, who was relieved hr the Liverwort A i
: Tar.
| Such are the good reports we hear of this Modi- j
I cine from ail parts of the South. For a report of j
the surprising cures it has performed in the West
i ern, and Northern and Eastern States, we would in- I
vite the suffering p uicu to read the pamphlet j
which accompanies each bottle, To all, we say, I
have hope, have hope!
Try the Medicine ! Be warned in season! And!
neglect not that cough w hich is daily weakening -
your constitution irritating your throat and lungs, I
: and inviting on that dread disease, Consumption, j
when so soothing and healing a remedy can be ob- ;
tained as Dr. Roger.-’ Syrup of Liverwort and Tar. |
Beware of Counterfeits and base imitations!
