FgTIIIS is an improved Steam Engine, for which B Letters Patent were granted to John A. Reed, of New York, January 9, isss. The nature of this Improvement consists of the increase of power about 2" percent, and reducing the weight of the Engine one-half. The saving of fuel is effected by letting the steam in on both sides of the cylinder; doubling the size of the port, and balancing the pressure, removing the friction and weight of the slide valves, eccentrics, cross heads, connecting rods, Ac. The exceeding simplicity i f this Engine, rentiers it much more durable and easily manager! than any other, and when placet! upon the boiler with wheels it is portable though effective. These Engines received the First Prize Medal at the great Exhibition in Paris. There are about Seventy-live of them now in operation, ail giving great satisfaction. prices: 1 Horse Engine, $.150 Boilers and fittings *125 8 " " 200 “ “ 150 $ “ “ 300 “ “ 300 8 “ “ 400 “ “ 400 10 “ “ 500 “ “ 500 All sizes from 1 to 1 oo horse power at the shortest notice. If he has been selling it for any length of time, he will tell you it is the best Medicine ex i taut. Below we give a few extracts from letters we have received lately regarding the virtues of this Medicine: Dr. S. S. Oslin, of Knoxville, Ga., says: 1 have been using your Liverwort and Tar very extensive ly in my practice for three years past, and it is with pleasure i state my belief in its superiority over all other articles with which 1 am acquainted, for which it is recommended. Messrs. Fitzgerald & Benners, writing from Waynesville, N. 0., say: “The Liverwort and Tar is becoming daily more popular in this country, and we think justly so. All who have tried if speak in commendable terms of it, and suv it is verv beneticial in alleviating the complaints for which it is recommended.” Our Agent in Pickens District. S. C., Mr. S. R. M'-Eall, assures us “ that he uses it with great ben efit in his own family, and recommends it to his neighbors.” He gives an instance of a Negro wo ; man, in his vicinity, who had been suffering with disease of the Lungs for years, attended with se vere cough, who was relieved by the Liverwort A Tar. Such are the good reports we hear of this Modi- j ! cine from all parts of the South. I HOW DISEASED ACTION BECOMES ESTABLISH*;;- AND TIIE BLOOD IMPURE, i A great error has long prevailed in the minds of tu“ , . ical men, *• That Impurity of the Blood is the Cause n Diseased Action."’ This is a serious mistake. It is > \ disturbance of the circulation and the establishment o diseased action, that causes impurity of the blood. The It. R It. theory holds the truth of the above max ims, for if a person be iu a state of perfect health, each artery and vein must carry to ami from the heart its allotted proportion of Blood, and when any set of ves sels refuse Jie the cause what it may) to carry their proportion, the current of blood becomes dammed up— in other words, a congestion takes place, giving pain to a greater or less extent Here, then, is the beginning of diseased action, which, if not relieved, will soon run into inflammation, and the disease becomes establishes 1 Diseased action being once established, the blood be comes impure, and the regularity of action on the part of the Liver, Ski Bowels, &c, is sure to be inter™ t ed and the general system, by sympathising with the local complaint, becomes involved in the difficulty. That ibis is the true state of the case, let any one call to mini Ids symptoms on catching cold. The local difficulty may ■ b- a sore throat, which is a congestion of the blood, amounting (sometimes) to an inflammation about th« ; throat, owing to a previous deranged state ofthecir ; dilation, and he will remember that hiH bowels becotn ; j costive, his liver deranged, or his skin dry, and his blood ’ ! impure Ilad he used Radway’s Ready Relief when the I i congestion was retting in.as an application to the throat, ; and swallowed a dose of the Regulators, he would have broken up the congestion, and restored the regularity i oa the part of the liver, skin, bowels, &e . which ha': ! been broken iu upon by the effects of the sore throat ; l egular ty being again established, the impure blood i -oon purified, and the circulation again equalized, aud the health re-tored. .
