FREE TRADE AND NO MONOPOLY.
Opposition to High Freight Tariff's I
Office ok the Fashion Line, i
Augusta, April 15, 1854. i
IHJIIE subscriber would respectfully call the
.U aattention of the Merchants throughout Geor
gia, Tennessee, Alabama, and South Carolina, to
the Savannah River, as a safe, expeditious and
cheap route for the transportation of their Merchan
dise.
By comparing the freight tariffs of this line with
those of the South Carolina, and Central, and
Waynesboro' Railroads, it yvill shoyv a result in fa
v. r’of this route of from 30 to 50 per cent., gener
ally', and in some instances a greater per centage.
By this route a merchant receives each shipment
| of his Goods together; they are not retailed by
' him as they generally are by Railroads connecting
with the seaboard, with a list of charges attached
I to each package.
In addition to the present force of this line, an
' other new Boat, of light draught of yyater, yvill be
added during the coming summer. These boats
yvill leave Savannah after the discharge of the New
Y’ork aud Philadelphia Steamships, tyviee or three
i times a week, delivering those Goods at this point
in FIVE DAYS.
From the present low tariff of this line a deduc
tion of 12W per cent, yvill be alloyved on all bills
from this 'fate. Give the river more business, and
a cheaper freight yet awaits you.
All goods from the seaboard should be directed
to JE A. COHEN, Savannah,
and produce from the interior to
JNO. A. JIOOBE,, Augusta.
To the manufaeturing portion of Georgia, as well
as to the Cotton Merchants, and dealers generally,
on the line of Railroads through Georgia and Ten
nessee, yvho ship to Savannah and Northern mar
kets, this route offers very favorable inducements.
To facilitate shipments, as yvell as to prevent er
rors, bills of lading should be forwarded to JI. A.
COHEN, nt Savannah, forall goods from seaboard.
JNO. A. MOORE.
In case of loyv river, all goods consigned to this
line, yvill be forwarded by Central, and connecting

REED S PATENT CHRONOMETER
ENGINE.
This is an improved Steam Engine, for which
Letters Patent were granted to John A. Reed,
of New York, January 9, 1855. The nature of this
Improvement consists of the increase of power
about 20 per cent, and reducing the weight of the
Engine one-half. The saving of fuel is effected by
letting the steam in on both sides of the cylinder;
doubling the size of the port, and balancing the
pressure, removing the friction and weight ol the
slide valves, eccentrics, cross beads, connecting
rods, Ac. The exceeding simplicity of this Engine,
renders it much more durable and easily managed
than any other, and when placed upon the boiler
with wheels it is portable though effective.
These Engines received the First Prize Medal at
the great Exhibition in Paris. There are about
Seventy-five of them now in operation, nil giving
, great satisfaction.

IS now put up m the largest sized bottles, and is
acknowledged to be the best Sarsaparilla made,
as is certified by the wonderful cures it has per
formed, the original copies of which are in the pos
session of the proprietor. Remember, this is the
only true and original article.
Scrofula, Syphilis, Mercurial Complaints, Cancer,
Gangrene, Rheumatism, and a vast variety of other
diseases are speedily and perfectly cured by the use
i of this medicine.
Read the following Certificate:
Tallapoosa Co., Ala., Jan. 2, 1855.
Dear Sir— l send you this to certify to you that
your Extract of Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla has
performed one of the most wonderful cures on me
. that has ever been effected on man.
1 have been afflicted for forty years w ith erup
tions on my legs and feet; in 184 s they got so bad
1 that 1 bad to go on crutches, and in 1341* 1 had one
leg amputated above the knee. In about nine
months after my other leg broke out in large eating
and running sores, from my knee to mv foot, and
discharged a great deal of offensive mailer. My
groin also broke out in large biles, which discharg
: ed much offensive matter, and at the same time mv
1 left hand broke out in large running sores nearly
to mv elbow.
The misery that I hare suffered for the lust two
years, 1 cannot describe to you. 1 was in such ag
: out that I never rested day or night.
In October last, my son brought me one of your
bottle wrappers; 1 read it, ;> id found record of some
wonderful cures performed by vour “Extract of
Vellow Dock and Sarsaparilla;’’ 1 sent and got two
bottles of it, and commenced taking it. In two
weeks, to my great astonishment, my sores all be
came easy, and I could sleep all night, a thing I had
not done for two years. When I had taken six bot
tles, my sores had nearly all healed. My sore got
well as if by enchantment. I have now used in all
eight-bottles of your “ Extract of Yellow Dock and
Sarsaparilla,” and I now consider mvsel well.
I entreat all of the afflicted to try this medicine,
for I believe it will cure any known disease in the
world. Lav aside ail prejudice and just try it, and
proclaim its great worth to snflering mank’iud, and
entreat them to take it, for ir will cure them.
My case is well known in a large portion of South
Carolina, Georgia and Alabama, and if anv should
■ doubt the above cure, 1 invite them to call on me,
and 1 will show them the scars. 1 can be found in
Tallepoo.su countv, Ala.,one mile from Stoe’s Ferry
BEX A JAIL HUGHES.'
The Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla is peculiarly
; adapted for females of delicate health, resulting
; from irregularity of menstrual discharges, and oth
| er diseases peculiar to their sex. The proprietor
has in his possession a great number of certificates
of cures performed, of the above description. We
assure the afflicted, that a bottle or two of Dr. Guv
sott’s Extract of Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla will
| at once regulate those difficulties, nndjrenew the
natural energies.
