FREE TRADE AND NO MONOPOLY.
Opposition to High Freight 'Tariffs !
Office of the Fashion Line, /
Augusta, April 15, 1- 54. j
fjIMIE subscriber would respectfully call the
si aattentionof the Merchants throughout Geor
gia, Tennessee, Alabama, and South Carolina, to
Lie Savannah River, as a safe, expeditious and
cheap route for the transportation of their Merchan
dise.
By comparing the freight tariffs of this lino with
those of the South Carolina, and Central, and
Waynesboro’ Railroads, it will show a result in fa
\.ir of this route of from 30 to 50 per c nt., gener
ally, and in some instances a greater ; . ventage.
By this route a merchant receives en ipment
us bis Goods together; they are nn= led bv
hint as they generally are by Railroad uecting
with the seaboard, with a list of char;; .. "ached
tu each package.
In addition to the present force of this line, an
othernew Boat, of light draught of water, will be
added during the Cuming summer. These boats
\\ ill leave Savannah after the discharge of the New
York and Philadelphia Steamships, twice or three
times a week, delivering those Goods at this point
in FIVE DAYS.
From the present low tariff of this line a deduc
tion of 12K per cent, will be allowed on all bills
from this date. Give the river more business, and
a cheaper freight yet awaits you.
All goods from the seaboard should be directed
to M. A. COHEN, Savannah,
and produce from the interior to
JXO. A. MOORE,, Augusta.
To the manufacturing portion of Georgia, as well
as to the Cotton Merchants, and dealers generally,
0.1 the line of Railroads through Georgia and Ten
nessee, who ship to Savannah and Northern mar
kets, this route offers very favorable inducements.
To faeilita’e shipments, as well as to prevent er
r is, bills of lading should be forwarded to M. A.
COHEN, at Savannah, for all goods from seaboard.

REED'S PATENT CHRONOMETER
ENGINE.
Tins is an improved Steam Engine, for which
Letters Patent were granted to John A. Reed,
of New York, January 9,1855. The nature of this j
Improvement consists of the increase of power
about 2" per cent, and reducing the weight of the j
Engine oue-balf. The saving of fuel is effected by
letting the steam in on both sides of the cylinder; :
doubling the size of the port, and balancing the j
pressure, removing the friction and weight of the
slide valves, eccentrics, cross heads, connecting j
rods, Ac. The exceeding simplicity of this Engine,
renders it much more durable and easily managed
than any other, and when placed upon’ the boiler
with wheels it is portable though effective.
These Engines received the First Prize Medal at 1
the great Exhibition in Paris. There are about
Seventy-five of them now in operation, all giving
j great satisfaction.

Gangrene, Rheumatism, and a vast variety of other
diseases are speedily and perfectly cured by the use

Read the fdUmring Certificate:
Tallapoosa Co., Ala., Jan. 2, 1855.
Dear Sir —1 send you this to certify to you that
your Extract of Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla has
performed one of the most wonderful cures on me
that has ever been effected on man.
I have been afflicted for forty years "with erup
i tions on my legs and feet; in ls-ts they got so bad
that I had to go on crutches, and in lSil* T had one
leg amputated above the knee. In about nine
months after my other leg broke out in large eating
and running sores, from my knee to my toot, and
. discharged a great deal ot offensive matter. My
groin also broke out in large biles, which discharg
. cd much offensive matter, and at the same time my
left hand broke out in large running sores nearly
to my elbow.
The misery that I have suffered for the last two
years, I cannot describe to you. i was in such ag
onv that 1 never rested day or night.
, 1 In October last, my son brought me one of your
. bottle v rappers; 1 read it, aid found record of some
■ wonderful cures performed by vour " Extract of
Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla;” 1 sent and got two
bottles of it, and commenced taking it. In two
weeks, to my great astonishment, my sores all be
came easy, and I could sleep all night, a thing I had
’ not done for two rears. When 1 had taken six bot
tles, my sores bad nearly all healed. My sure got
well as if by enchantment. I have now used in all
eight bottles of your “ Extractor Yellow Dock and
, Sarsaparilla,” anil 1 now consider niysel well.
I entreat all of the afflicted to try this medicine,
for 1 believe it will cure any known disease in the
world. Lay aside all prejudice and just try it, and
. proclaim its great worth to suffering mankind, and
entreat them to take it. for it will cure them.
My case is well known in a large portion of Sonth
Carolina, Georgia and Alabama, and if anv should
doubt the above cure, i invite them to call on me,
j and I will show them the scars. 1 can be found in
Tallepoosa countv, Ala.,one mile from Stoe’s Ferry
BENAJAH HUGHES.
The Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla is peculiarly
i j adapted for females of delicate health, resulting
- i from irregularity of menstrual discharges, and oth
er diseases peculiar to their sex. The proprietor
has in bis possession a great number of certificates
! of cures performed, of the above description. We \
assure the afflicted, that a bottle or two of Dr. Guy
sott’s Extract of Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla will
' at once regulate those difficulties, and.ronew the
natural energies.
