REED’S PATENT CHRONOMETER i
ENGINE.
rMTIIIS is an improved Steam Engine, for which ;
■ Let ters Patent were granted to John A. Reed, ;
1 of New Y'ork, January 9, 1855. The nature of this
Improvement cons-sts of the increase of power
about 20 per cent, and reducing the weight of the
Engine one-half. The saving of fuel is effected by
letting the steam in on both sides of the cylinder;
doubling the size of the port, aud balancing the
pressure, removing the friction and weight of the
slide valves, eccentrics, cross heads, connecting j
rods, Ac. The exceeding simplicity- of this Engine,
renders it much more durable aud easily managed
than any other, and when placed upon the boiler
with wheels it is portable though effective.
These Engines received the First Prize Medal at
the great Exhibition in Paris. There are about ,
Seventy-five of them now in operation, all giving
great Satisfaction.

| ROGERS’ LIVERWORT AND TAR,
170 R the complete cure of Coughs, Colds, In ;
. fluenza. Asthma, Bronchitis, Spitting of Blood, j
I und all other Lung Complaints tending to Con
| sumption.
This preparation is getting into use all over the j
j country. The numerous letters vre receive from
our various agents, informing us of cures effected
in their immediate neighborhoods, warrant us in
saying it is one of the best, if not the very best
Cough Medicine now before the public. It almost
invariably relieves and not unfrequently cures the
very worst case. When all other Cough prepara
tions have failed, this has relieved the patient, as ;
Druggists, dealers in Medicines, and Physicians
can testify. Ask the Agent in your nearest town,
what has been his experience of the effects of this ,
medicine. If he has been selling it for any length
of time, he will tell you it is the best Medicine ex
! tant.
Below we give a few extracts from letters we
have received lately regarding the virtues of this
: Medicine:
Dr. S. S. Oslin, of Knoxville, Ga., says: I have ;
been using your Liverwort and Tar very extensive
ly in my practice for three years past, and it is with
i pleasure 1 state my belief in its superiority over all j
I other articles with which I am acquainted, for
which it is recommended.
Messrs. Fitzgerald A Benners, writing from
| Waynesville, N.C., say: “The Liverwort and Tar |
| is becoming daily more popular in this country, j
and we think justly so. All who hate tried it
speak in commendable terms of it, and say it is j
very beneficial in alleviating the complaints for
| which it is recommended.’’
Our Agent in Pickens District, S. C., JO'. S. K.
McFall, assures us “that he uses it with great, ben j
efit in his own family, and recommends it to his :
| neighbors.” He gives an instance of a Negro wo
! man, in his vicinity, who had been suffering with
disease of the Lungs for years, attended with se
vere cough, who was relieved by the Liverwort A
Tar. . . :
Such are the good reports we hear of this Medi
j cine from all parts of the South. For a report of
the surprising cures it has performed in the West
ern, and Northern and Eastern States, we would in
vite the suffering patient to read the pamphlet ;
j which accompanies each bottle. To all, we say, '
have hope, have hope!
Try the Medicine! Be warned in season! And
neglect not that cough which is daily weakening .
! your constitution, irritating your throat and lungs, 1
and inviting on that dread disease, Consumption,
when so soothing and healing a remedy can he ob- !
tained as Dr. Rogers’ Syrup of Liverwort and Tar. j
Beware of Counterfeits and base imitations!
The genuine is signed A.vdruw Rogers on the
engraved wrapper around each bottle.

M S now put up in the largest sized bottles, and is
is acknowledged to be the best Sarsaparilla made,
as is certified by the wonderful cures it has per- :
formed, the original copies of which are in the pos- ;
session of the proprietor. Remember, this is the
; only true and original article.
Scrofula, Syphilis, Mercurial Complaints, Cancer, j
Gangrene, Rheumatism, and a vast variety of other -
diseases are speedily and perfectly cured by the use :
of this medicine.
Jiejid the following Certificate:
Tallapoosa Co., Ala., Jan. 2, 1855.
Dear Sip. I send you this to certify to you that j
your Extract of Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla has ;
performed one of the most wonderful cures on me ■
thn; has over been effected on man.
1 have been afflicted for forty years "with erup- ;
lions on my legs and feet; in 1848 they got so bad
that I had to go on crutches, raid in 1849 I had one J
leg amputated above the knee. In about nine
months after my other leg broke out in large eating j
and running sores, from mv knee to my foot, and ‘
discharged a ereat deal of offensive matter. My i
groin also broke out in large biles, which discharg -
ed much offensive matter, and at the same time my j
left hand broke out in large running sores nearly -
to my elbow.
The misery that 1 have suffered for the last two 1
years, I cannot describe to you. I was in such ag :
onv that I never rested day or night.
In October last, my sou brought me one of your ’
bottle wrappers; I read it, a id found record of some |
wonderful cures performed >v your “Extract of r
Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla;” 1 sent and got two ‘
bottles of it, and commenced taking it. In two ;
weeks, to my great astonishment, n:y sores all be
came easy, and I could sleep all night, a thing I had
no: done for two years When I had taken six hot
ties, my sores had nearly ull healed. My sore got
! well as if by enchantment. I have now used in all j
eight bottles of your “ Extract of Yellow Dock and
Sarsaparilla,” and I now consider mysel well. j
I entreat all of the afflicted to try this medicine, l
f«>r ! believe it will cure any known disease in the
; world. Lay aside ail prejudice and just try it, and
proclaim its great worth to suffering mankind, and )
i entreat them to take it, for it will cure them.
My case is well known in a large portion of South !
Carolina, Georgia and Alabama, and if any should ;
doubt the above cure, I invite them to call on me, ’
1 and I will show them the scars. 1 can be found in I
Tallepoosa countv, Ala.,one mile from Sloe’s Ferry
BEN A J All HUGHES."
The Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla is peculiarly j
adapted for females of delicate health, resulting j
from irregularity of menstrua! discharges, and otli- j
; er diseases peculiar to their sex. The proprietor j
; has in his possession a great number of certificates ,
jof cures performed, of the above description. \Ye (
! assure the afflicted, that a bottle or two of Dr. Guy- -
sott’s Extract of Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla will j
, at once regulate those difficulties, andjrmew the i
’ natural energies.
