TRADE AND NO MONOPOLY.
Opposition to High Freight Tariff s !
Office of thf. Fashion Line, I
Augusta, April 15, 1854. j
fYIIE subscriber would respectfully call the
- aattention of the Merchants throughout Geor
gia, Tennessee, Alabama, and South Carolina, to
1 lie Savannah River, as a safe, expeditious and
■ heap route for the transportation of their Merchan
dise.
By comparing the freight tariff’s of this line with
those of the South Carolina, and Central, and
Waynesboro’ Railroads, it will show a result in fa
•or of this route of from 30 to 50 per cent., gener- !
ally, and in some instances a greater per centage.
By this route a merchant receives each shipment
■•f liis Goods together; they are not retailed bv
i>im as they generally are by Railroads connecting
with the seaboard, with a list of charges attached
to each package.
In addition to the present force of this line, an
other new Boat, of light draught of water, will be :
added during the coming summer. These boats'
will leave Savannah after the discharge of the New
Y’ork and Philadelphia Steamships, twice or three
times a week, delivering those Goods at this point
in FIVE DAY’S.
From the present low tariff of this line a deduc
tion of 12)£ per cent, will be allowed on all bills
front this date. Give the river more business, and !
a cheaper freight yet awaits you.
All goods from the seaboard should be directed
to 1 YI. A. COHEN, Savannah,
uud produce front the interior to
JNO A. MOORE,, Augusta.
To the manufacturing portion of Georgia, as well
as to the Cotton Merchants, and dealers generally,
i n the line of Railroads through Georgia and Ten
nessee, who ship to Savannah and Northern mar
kets, this route offers very favorable inducements, j
To facilitate shipments, as well as to prevent er
rors, bills of Jading should be forwarded to M. A.
< OMEN, at Savannah, forall goods front seaboard.

REED’S PATENT CHRONOMETER
ENGINE.
rjHiis is an improved Steam Engine, for which
-■ Letters Patent were granted to John A. Reed,
1 r, f New Y’ork, January 9,1855. The nature of this
Improvement consists of the increase of power ;
about 20 per cent, and reducing the weight of the !
Engine one-half. The saving of fuel is effected by
letting the steam in on both sides of the cylinder;
doubling the size of the port, and balancing the
pressure, removing the friction and weight of the
slide valves, eccentrics, cross heads, connecting
rods, Ac. The exceeding simplicity of this Engine, ,
renders it much more durable and easily managed
than any other, and when placed upon the boiler
with wheels it is portable though effective.
These Engines received the First Prize Medal at
the great Exhibition in Paris. There are about
Seventy-five of them now in operation, all giving
great satisfaction.

ROGERS’ LIVERWORT AND TAR,
FOR the complete cure of Coughs, Colds, In 1
fluenza, Asthma, Bronchitis, Spitting of Blood,
and all other Lung Complaints tending to Con j
sumption.
This preparation is getting into use all over the !
country. The numerous letters we receive from
our various agents, informing us of cures effected
in their immediate neighborhoods, warrant us in j
saving it is one of the best, if not the very best
i Cough Medicine now before the public. It almost ,
invariably relieves and not unfrequently cures the j
very worst case. When all other Cough prepara
| tions have failed, this has relieved the patient, as ;
j Druggists, dealers in Medicines, and Physicians
can testify. Ask the Agent in your nearest town, i
what has’been his experience of the effects of this '
medicine. If he has been selling it for any length
of time, he will tell you it is the best Medicate ex- :
i tant.
Below we give a few extracts from letters we
: have received lately regarding the virtues of this
Medicine:
Dr. S. S. Oslin, of Knoxville, Ga., says: I have
been using your Liverwort aud Tar very extensive
ly in my practice for three years past, and it is with :
pleasure 1 state my belief in its superiority overall
other articles with which I am acquainted, for
which it is recommended. '
Messrs. Fitzgerald & Benners, writing from .
Waynes ville, N.C., say: “The Liverwort and Tai
ls becoming daily more popular in this country, ;
and we think justly so. All who have tried it
j speak in commendable terms of it, and say it is
very beneficial in alleviating the complaints for
I which it is recommended.” •
: Our Agent m Pickens District, S. C., Mr. H. R.
,! McFall, assures us “ that he uses it with great ben
efit in his own family, and recommends it to his
neighbors.” He gives an instance of a Negro wo
man, in his vicinity, who had been suffering with
disease of the Lungs for years, attended with se
; vere cough, who was relieved bv the Liverwort &
Tar.
Such are the good reports we hear of this Medi
, cine from all parts of ihc South. For a report of
j the surprising cures it has performed in the West
ern, and Northern and liastern States, we would in
vite the suffering patient to read the pamphlet
which accompanies each bottle. To all, we say,
have hope, have hope!
Try the Medicine! Be warned in season! And
1 neglect not that cough which is daily weakening
j your constitution, irritating your throat and lungs,
- ; and inviting on that dread disease, Consumption,
when so soothing aud healing a remedy can he ob
tained as Dr. Rogers’ Syrup of Liverwort and Tar.
Beware of Counterfeits and base imitatious!
The genuine is signed Andrew Rogers on the
: engraved wrapper around each bottle.

formed, the original copies of which are in the pos
session of the proprietor. Remember, this is the

: Gangrene, Rheumatism, and a vast variety of other
diseases are speedily and perfectly cured by the use

Head thefolloinhn Certificate:
Tallapoosa Co., Ala., Jan. 2, 1855.
Dear Sin—T send you this to certify to you that
your Extract of Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla has
performed one of the most wonderful cures on me
that has ever been eifected on man.
I have been afflicted for forty years'with erup
tions on my legs and feet; in IS-ts they got so bad
that I had to go on crutches, and in 1842 l had one
leg amputated above the knee. In about nine
months after toy other leg broke out in large eating
and running sores, from my knee to my foot, and
discharged a great deal of offensive matter. My
groin also broke out in large biles, which diseharg
ed much offensive matter, and at the same time my
left hand broke out in large running sores nearly
to my elbow.
The misery that I have suffered for the last two
years, I cannot describe to you. I was in such ag
onv that I never rested day or night.
In October last, my son brought me one of your
bottle wrappers; 1 read it, a ldfound record of some
wonderful cures performed by vour “Extract of
Yellow Dock aud Sarsaparilla;” 1 sent aud got two
bottles of it, and commenced talcing it. In two
weeks, to niv great astonishment, tny sores all be
came easy, and 1 could sleep all night, a thing 1 had
not done for two years. Vs hen I had taken six bot
tles, my sores had nearly all healed. My sore got
. well as if by enchantment. 1 have now used in all
, eight bottles of your “ Extract of Yellow Dock and
Sarsaparilla," and 1 now consider niysel well.
I entreat all of the afflicted to try this medicine,
for 1 believe it will cure any known disease in the
world. Lay- aside all prejudice and just try it, and
- proclaim its great worth to suffering mankind, and
1 entreat them to take it, for it will cure them.
My case is well known in a large portion of South
Ourolina, Georgia and Alabama, and if any should
doubt the above cure, 1 invite them to call on me,
and I will show them the scars. I can be found in
Tailepoosa county, Ala.,one mile from Stoe’s Ferry
RENA J All HUGHES.'
The Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla is peculiarly
adapted for females of delicate health, resulting
' I from irregularity of menstrual discharges, and oth
i er diseases peculiar to their sex. The proprietor
! has in his possession a great number of certificates
of cures performed, of the above description. We
assure the afflicted, that a bottle or two of Dr. Guy
sott’s Extract of Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla will
; at once regulate those difficulties, and o renew the
I natural energies.

proportion, the current of blood becomes dammed ur ~
in other words, a congestion takes place, givingpainm
a greater or less extent. Here, then, is the C-inniv
of diseased action, which, if not relieved, will !
into inflammation, and the disease becomes establish!,!
Diseased action being once established, the blend ho
comes impure, and the regularity of action on thenar
of the Liver, Skin. Bowels, Ac , is sure to he interrupt
ed. and the general system, by sympathising with the
local complaint, becomes involved in the difficulty. That
this is the true state of the case, let any one call to mint
his symptoms on catching cold. The local difficulty may
he a sore throat, which is a congestion of the blood
amounting (sometimes) to an inflammation about the
throat, owing to a previous deranged state of the cir
culation, and he will remember that his bowels b00m;,,.
costive, his liver deranged, or his skin drv. and his bio':
impure. Had he used Radwav’s Ready Relief when tin
congestion was setting in.as an application to the throe:
and swallowed a dose of the Regulators, he would hare
broken up the congestion, and restored the regularity
on the part of the liver, skin, bowels. Ac., which hat
been broken in upon by the effects of the sorethroa'.
Regularity being again established, the impure blood is
■soon purified, and the circulation again equalized, and
the health restored.

READ HER LETTER.
January 3, 1556.
Messrs Radway A Co — l tried your Ready 1!
and had tny joints rubbed with it, and I never felt pain
after the first ten minutes. I was rubbed with it. up to
the pi Prent time. Sir-, Ido not know what to compare
it to but a charm ; for it is a mystery to me. I was a
cripple for two years, and had not the"proper use ot mv
limbs for three years 1 was worn down to a skeleton. I
then commenced the use of your Ready Relief. Resol
vent and Regulators. The pain left me in ten minutes,
and 1 b gan to gain strength very' fast, and could walk
with ease in a few weeks Before I heard of vour Bern
■-dies. I was taken to Dr. Parker, Dr. Reese, Dr Wardle,
Dr. Maclelan, and many other physicians in this city, 1
cannot now remember, r was completely pulled to pieces
by them. My constitution was broken up with medi
cines that did me no good. 1 could not put a foot to
the ground, ror pick up a pin. I was lifted and carried
up and down stairs like an infant; and now, thunk God 1
by the u eof yaur Remedies, lam as strong as ever. I
had the common rheumatism—imfiammatory uud
chronic —and the paisv. Yon can publish this, if von
